YCM Reform: Remove Necrobump Rule

Recommended Posts

As it stands, pre-CardMaker 2.0 YCM is a fairly small community with only about 40-50 members on at a time. The number of posts in a day usually ranks around the 100 post mark. In light of this, forming a new topic all the time fragments discussion and makes it harder to find things in the old threads, so I'd like to suggest removing the necrobump rule

Still necessary in CC and RP, and I feel that the necro rule being gone mainly would have benefit in TCG.

Rather than a full on revoking of the rule, I'd say to loosen it instead. Basically focus on having it prevent people giving random comments to old dead threads, and instead allow bumps that add something new to discuss on the table instead.

Yeah this is fair. I think it's a solid middle ground that makes sense.

As for RP, do RPs never go dormant then restart?

The concern in RP is not that, it's just that sometime random people would bump ancient threads up and give false impressions that it might be accepting, and such.

In general I believe it won't be an issue if something is necrobumped with actual new content, but the line of what's actually acceptable needs to be well-defined.

Honestly speaking, I haven't really penalized for necrobumping in CC lately, though most of the members who do it are usually newbies. I have penalized for it in the past with WP, but that was a couple years ago. Nowadays, usually a verbal warn and post removed / topic locked [sometimes the bump isn't too severe, and others are digging up stuff from the old days].

(Then again, even some posts that are over the 14-day deadline sometimes get let go if the period isn't that much.)

I could loosen the restrictions in CC (well, they are relatively stricter compared to the rest of YCM), but definitely not a good idea to remove it from there. I have a longer period for thread creators if they actually add content (which does account for the work needed to make new stuff, and balancing out RL). But in all seriousness, there's not much reason for you to bump up an old card thread because the times it was designed for were different.

Loosening the standards for certain areas could be considered instead of dropping the necro thing entirely, yes, but you have to take it up with Broken and Flame for their respective subareas of TCG if they feel it's beneficial. We technically are dropping the section mod thing, but none of us touch those areas so...

And I'd need to talk to Dad about Debates/General?

I've been meaning to bring it up with Broken on the Necro, but I want to know if the TCG community backs such a move
