Should we get more Evenly Match like cards?

Recommended Posts

Evenly match is one of the only cards in the game that actually punishes players for overextending and using up too resources. All other cards are ineffective due to most monsters, spell, traps having secondary effects that trigger off when they get banished and/or hit the grave. Thus, mitigating the point of punishing said player for overusing resources since they can just set up a new board in MP2.

With that said, the card is really great. It helps teach players about resource management and effectively not splurging your entire hand turn 1 on the field, which seems to be the norm these days. Do you think we should get more cards like evenly match in the future?

Example-

1. A hand trap that lets you banish monster(s) face down that are SS to the extra monster zone.

2. An evenly match version of raigeki and/or harpie feather duster that removes card face-down.

3. Evenly match version of mirror force.

Definitely not, in my opinion. We don't need need to powercreep cards like Raigeki and Harpie's Feather Duster (which, by the way, is still banned in the TCG) just because they're not as good as they were a few years ago. They're still good cards.

Also that hand trap sounds like one of the most awful things to play against.

Evenly Matched Mirror Force already exists.

It's called Drowning Mirror Force.

Super Raigeki/HFD is an utterly stupid idea, since they are already limited/forbidden and they would be strictly better.

We don't need more Evenly Matched cards, and the fact that Evenly Matched is "needed' to deal with these triple powerhouse boards people can throw out with just a few cards on turn 1 speaks to a much darker problem with the game.

Evenly Matched on the bright side has a lot of mechanisms that try to keep it as a comeback tool.

The more field you have, the less effective it is, with the max mileage you can get out of this still leaving a single card on board from the opponent's choice, and a starting MP2 to see if they can bounce back before your turn comes.

It also goes off at a very key time, not intercepting setup plays in the middle of anything, and not preventing the battle phase from happening.

Then the "use from hand" only applying on an empty field.

Though there are some things like Trickstars when Reincarnation was at 3 that didn't look right, just like in the Nekroz days, there was a scenario of "do I get my cards hit from the field or from my hand?"...

I think making more like this could work, but it'll depend on how they make them. Cards with the concept of hitting the opponent hard enough to want to play around them. It wouldn't be something like a "super Raigeki" or "mega heavy storm" per say, but something that can hit things at a different angle rather than strictly outclass old power cards.... which Mirror Forces come to mine to a degree but IDK.
