Can we powercreep raigeki break yet?

Recommended Posts

Raigeki Strike

Trap

Destroy 1 card on the field.

Is it possible for a card like this to be released?

What if it was a quick-play spell?

Would the quick play be broken? Remember, MST was, until very recently, an amazing staple card. Would you be fine with an MST that hits monsters?

Now, I don't give a rat's arsehole whether it affects the meta or whether people would top with it or even play it, for that matter. Do not comment that down below. I am asking whether, and you're reading this right, I'm asking if a quick-play spell raigeki break would be broken. Well, not broken exactly, but... You get the point. Whether it'd be too good to be released.

Mystical Space Lightning

quick-play

Destroy 1 card on the field.

Now, advantages:

1) Doesn't target

2) The choice happens at resolution, thus the opponent can't chain set cards to it, unless he chains all of them.

3) Hits monsters and offers quick and easy disruption or removal, and is a simple one for one.

4) Straight upgrade over ghost ogre, outside of not being a hand trap, although that's kinda a big thing.

5) Dodges removal, easy to chain to nearly anything.

6) Almost always live. Going first, it's disruption. Going second, helps break boards.

On a side note, has anyone noticed what a ridiculous name MST has? None of the three words really relate to each other at all, and they're all chuuni. It's like they mashed 3 cool-sounding words together then went "There, done."

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think you get to make that call.

As for a quick play Raigeki Break, make it target and give it an HOPT I’d say sure.

We currently have Bad Aim as pack filler nobody really uses seriously, which might as well be fully chainable with that sort of trigger condition. I'm sure a Quick-Play Spell of it wouldn't do much either.

Then we have cards like Paleozoic Dinomischus, which can't hit face-down cards, but what it hits it banishes, and it has a secondary use as a self-revived 1200 ATK vanilla immune to monster effects. Or Karma Cut which only hits face-up monsters, but banishes them and takes care of copies of them. Or Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, which doesn't destroy so there are less targets against it. This paragraph's samples aren't so much directly outclassing it in every way, as much as being different enough to be better or worst depending on scenarios and the game's landscape. Meant to feel like upgrades but have traits that make them more like "incompatibles" to a degree.

If you wanted to powercreep these, I'd rather turn them into what Twin Twister is for MST than contribute to further transform Traps into an obsolete mechanic. They'd probably not have the "up to 2" but just "2" to prevent them from being better in absolutely every possible way though.

Mystical Space Typhoon is not so weird of a name IMO. It's a mystical typhoon that comes from space, not a regular typhoon from mystical space (maybe). Maybe someday we'll get a "Mystical Space" archetype that revitalizes MST xD

If you don't wanna take the meta into account, you don't wanna take into account the pinnacle of what is intended to be possible within the game, I mean, how else are we to read the limits of the power curve if we can't analyze the top performers while doing so? It turns a possible discussion into something not as defined. I THINK I see what you mean, but can't find a way to state it.
