PSY-Framegear Gamma
LIGHT/Psychic/Tuner/Effect
Level: 2
1000/0
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by a card effect, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. During either player's turn, when your opponent activates a monster effect while you control no monsters: You can Special Summon both this card from your hand and 1 "PSY-Frame Driver" from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard, and if you do, negate that activation, and if you do that, destroy that monster. During the End Phase, banish the face-up monsters Special Summoned by this effect.

As a short introduction, and for those who somehow are still not aware, Gamma can be run in x3 copies along PSY-Frame Driver as a monster-effect negation hand trap, which, unlike Veiler, can negate the effects of monsters anywhere. The trade-off, however, is that you must have a field clear of monsters to activate it. That makes the "engine" effective on turn 1 regardless of the starting player, as it can stop from playstarter monsters when you go second, to hand traps like Ash Blossom when you go first.

Now, I'm making this thread mainly to ask and discuss in which decks the "Gamma engine" is good to play in the current and upcoming formats. While AFAIK it's not for every deck, especially those that rely more on having a monster on board ASAP, I still don't grasp which decks do can run it with more ease. I have seen it being suggested in Infernoids & variants, also it was run in a topping Zefra deck in OCG and yet not seen in any other topping deck, and I imagine Invoked & variants can run it more safely by using dead PSY-Frames as material for Merkabah. So, what's the catch here? If it's for stopping hand trap monsters in the first turn, wouldn't it then be equally effective in most decks when going first? What about including it in the side deck along Solemn traps and swap depending on who goes first on the following duels of a match? Moreover, "Called by the Grave" (Designator from the Grave) is now a thing, which is coveted for its ability of negating monster hand traps as well. and unlike Gamma it can hit other things, requires at least 1 less maindeck slot and doesn't need a field clear of monsters to be live. So, in which decks it's better to stick with Gamma, go for Called by the Grave, or perhaps even run both?

Discuss.
