Nymph Archetype, a supporting Deck for Tag Duels

[spoiler=Prompt]
Nymphs are FAIRY monsters with different Attributes based off Nymphs from the Greek mythology, who have a different role if they are in Attack or in Defense Position. While in Attack Position, they have some form of protection or ATK gain, meaning once they swarm the field they can act like a beatdown Archetype. While in Defense Position, they can be Tributed to resolve an effect during the next Standby Phase: this will be used in Tag Duels to let your partner have some sort of advantage before their turn starts.
[spoiler=More Info]
- OCG might be a bit off.
- The Archetype isn't meant to be meta or anything. It's just a support Archetype which can also work on its own.

- Available on Duel Portal!

Aura, Nymph of the Breeze

Level 3/WIND/Fairy/1000/1200

If you control a “Nymph” monster: You can Special Summon this card (from your hand), but you cannot Summon monsters for the rest of the turn, except “Nymph” monsters.

  • While in Attack Position: This card cannot be targeted by card effects. If you control 3 or more “Nymph” monsters, all “Nymph” monsters you control gain 800 ATK.

  • While in Defense Position: You can Tribute this card: During your next Standby Phase, Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from your hand.

The first monster explaines everything you need to know about the Archetype. Protection and ATK if it's in Attack Position; support for the partner if in Defense Position.

Esperide, Nymph of the Sunset

Level 4/LIGHT/Fairy/1200/1400

If this card is Normal Summoned, you can change its Battle Position, and if you do, add 1 “Nymph” Spell/Trap card from your Deck to your hand.

  • While in Attack Position: You take no effect damage, and all battle damage from battles involving this card becomes 0.

  • While in Defense Position: You can Tribute this card: During your next Standby Phase, you can reveal 1 monster in your hand; add 1 monster with the same Level and Type, but with a different name, from your Deck to your hand.

This is how you let any partner search one of their monsters.

Calipso, Nymph of the Ocean

Level 4/WATER/Fairy/1400/1600

If this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 “Nymph” monster from your Deck to your hand, and if you do, you can change this card’s Battle Position.

  • While in Attack Position: If you control another “Nymph” monster, this card cannot be targeted for attacks or card effects. If a “Nymph” monster is destroyed and sent to the GY: This card gains ATK equal to half the ATK of the monster destroyed until the end of the next turn.

  • While in Defense Position: You can Tribute this card: During your next Standby Phase, draw 1 card.

Nothing much to say. This one searches monsters.

Orphne, Nymph of the Dark

Level 4/DARK/Fairy/1600/1800

When an opponent’s monster declares an attack: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, then end the Battle Phase. If this card is Special Summoned this way: Destroy it at the end of the turn. During your opponent’s turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card; at the end of your next Standby Phase, apply the appropriate effect depending on the number of different “Nymph” effects that applied during that Standby Phase:

1+: This turn, each time you Summon a monster, that monster gains 500 ATK until the end of the turn.

2+: The opponent cannot activate monster effects until the end of the turn.

3+: Draw 1 card.

A stronger Nymph Battle Fader which encourages you to Tribute (use the Defense position effects) of the other Nymphs. OCG might be a bit off.

Crisopelea, Nymph of the Tree

Level 5/EARTH/Fairy/1800/2000

You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by Tributing a face-up “Nymph” monster on your field.

  • While in Attack Position: This card cannot be destroyed by battle or by monsters effects. If you control 4 “Nymph” monsters with different names: This card’s original ATK becomes 3000.

  • While in Defense Position: You can target 1 “Nymph” monster in your GY: Special Summon it, but destroy it and this card at the end of the turn. You can only use this effect of “Crisopelea, Nymph of the Tree” once per turn. You can Tribute this card: During your next Standby Phase, you gain Life Points equal to the number of “Nymph” monsters with different names in your GY x500.

The "boss monster" of the Archetype. Meant to stay on the Field.

[spoiler=Spells and Traps]

Garden of the Nymphs CONTINUOUS SPELL

While this card is on your field, all Battle Damage you take is halved.
Once per turn, you can activate one of the following effects.
- Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Nymph" monster from your hand or GY in Defense position.
- Discard 1 card: Special Summon a Level 4 or lower “Nymph” monster from your Deck.

Since you can Tribute monsters to let the partner gain advantage, reducing damage is an easy way to avoid OTKs.

Muses, Nymphs of Arts NORMAL SPELL

Add 1 “Nymph” monster from your Deck to your hand. During your Standby Phase, if an effect of a “Nymph” monster applies, you can banish this card from your GY: Target a card on the field; destroy it.

Symphony of the Nymphs CONTINUOUS SPELL

While you control only 1 “Nymph” monster, that monster cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects, and your opponent cannot target cards you control with attacks or card effects, except that monster. If this card is destroyed: Activate 1 “Garden of the Nymphs” from your Deck, but destroy it at the end of your turn.

Protection for non-Nymph cards (your partner's). Also if the opponent destroys this, now Battle Damage will be halved, and the partner can SS a Nymph from the GY during their turn.

Sacrifice of the Nymphs NORMAL TRAP

Tribute or discard 1 monster: Special Summon 2 "Nymph" monsters with different names from your hand or GY. While this card is in your GY, if a card or an effect is activated: You can banish this card and Tribute 2 “Nymph” monsters; negate the activation and destroy it, and if you do, end the current Phase.

Situational anime-like reviving card. Not sure about the GY effect.

Quick talk about the cards themselves before I talk about the archetype as a whole, the idea of which I love.

Calipso has two Defense position effect in the card, but the lore beneath it only has the draw effect. I would normally default to the latter without a second thought, but your comment mentions it searches monsters, which is what your second effect does. Could be a left over from an early design of Esperide, as that one does monster searching too, but...you know what they say about assuming :P Also, was there a particular reason that these cards have slightly different searching effects? I would personally suggesting dropping both, and going with also rather than and if you do, as these cards need all the help they can get.

Muses is rather disappointing considering it's the only way to get monsters from your Deck other than Esperide. The only time Muses is more useful than the monster is if you open multiple Muses and you're going before your partner. Yeah, the no monsters requirement seems at odds considering if your opponent makes plays, and happens to have their side of the field survive an opponent's turn, this card is practically useless. Also, the effects of monsters don't necessarily resolve when they apply. The effect resolves after you Tribute it, and leaves a lingering effect that applies during the next Standby Phase. I really don't know how else to phrase it to get what you want.

First major problem I notice with the archetype was all the effects and such hinting towards a swarm strategy, and yet very few swarm cards actually present, with the ones that are there (Garden, Sacrifice) have heavy costs and don't even Summon from the Deck. Crisopelea would be a neat card in and of its own, possibly being my favorite card in the archetype, but it overshadows Garden in the main aspect of the card. This archetype is certainly incapable of standing on its own merits. But is it able to at least stand up as a support archetype?

Firstly, no Quick Effects on the monsters, meaning you're going to have to setup an impenetrable field and do all of your plays during your turn, without doing much defense during your opponent's turn. This is aight and all save for the fact that the only real defense you have is Garden, which is vulnerable to MST and only halves battle damage. Tbf you are playing with 16000 LP, but still, it is vulnerable. You have lingering effects down pat on the main monsters, but you're only really activating one and hoping you draw/end up with Garden, otherwise, you can't do much during your opponent's turn and not leaving such a great field for your partner. You're only getting out 1, 2, maybe 3 if you're lucky, monsters each turn, and your Trap doesn't help much as it doesn't work during your opponent's turn due to the lack of Quick Effects.

The way I see it, the best way to go from here is to make this archetype more supportive and survivable, working more on the concept of a field you can give your partner but probably can't use yourself while allowing you to survive that long and preventing your opponent from making too many plays, OR to just make the archetype decent with a few tag support here and there. Right now, the archetype doesn't quite make up its mind, being bad at both. This page here has a lot of trivia in regards to Tag Duels you could take advantage of, such as the multiple GYs and such. Perhaps more generic effects, perhaps saying you can't Summon Nymph monsters during the turn you use an effect? Why not a more powerful Waboku?

Sorry, it looks like I didn't pay enough attention while making the cards, so Calipso has 2 Defense effects, while it actually only has the drawing one. I'll fix it right now.

Having different effects is a way of balancing cards, so that no Nymph is superior to another. For example, if a monster has a really good Defense effect, it'll have a weaker Attack effect (take Esperide).

Muses has the restrictions because it's basically an E - Emergency with an added effect. Might take it away, if it makes the card worthless.

Garden can SS from the Deck, sure.

Sacrifice might be too costly. I might change it so it SS 2 monsters by discarding a card, thus making it more practical to use.

If you've noticed, the Stats are constantly going up by 200 points from card to card (Aura is 1000/1200; Esperide is 1200/1400 etc.) and I still need to make a 1600/1800 Level 4 monster, which can be a little different from the others - it may work as a Battle Fader.

Other S/T support will try fixing the weaknesses of the Archetype.

Thanks for the review!

This is an era where Fightfur Fusion is played. Even Crystal Beasts have Crystal Bond. Neither of them are considered meta, or were when their respective searcher was released. Yeah, take away that restriction. You can get away with it :P

Didn't notice the ATK difference. Nice work there.
