Unorthodox Taxon
[Normal Spell]

You can only activate 1 "Unorthodox Taxon" per turn. Send 1 card from  your hand to your the GY; add up to 2 of these monsters from your Deck to your hand (you cannot add 2 from the same category).

* 1 Flip monster
* 1 Spirit monster
* 1 Union monster
* 1 Gemini monster

An Onomatopaira for monster subtypes, huh. It should have a niche. Grabbing any of the ABCs come to mind, but you would have to tech some non-Unions. inb4 Amano-Iwato. Shaddolls as Flip techs could work too, namely Dragon and Beast. Ad now I'm thinking on weird ABC Shaddoll variants once Nephilim Fusion is unbanned.

Funnily enough, ABCs do side a Shaddoll engine with Shaddoll Fusion and Dragon in OCG, but I don't think they like to have the Dragon on hand xD

In short, the card looks good. I'm guessing that if a monster with 2+ of those subtypes is ever released, it would lock you from picking another monster with any of those subtypes.

Yeah... I figure that a Deck combining some of these sub types would already compromise consistency and plays... So ideally, yes, the ABC Unions, and Shaddoll's Flips would perhaps be the best engines to use around this card. Although I think Krawler's Flips could be mixed decently with other subtypes considering their Field Spell frees you a Normal Summon/ Set. I would imagine the hardest subtypes to use well with other subtypes would be Spirit and especially Gemini. I mean Gemini's need that extra Normal Summon to do something, and Spirits don't really keep their presence on board. (Although the more I think about it... Decks could squeeze in the Shinobird Rituals to search them with this since they are also Spirits).

As for  the idea of potential combination of 2 of those subtypes... Yes, I think the cards restriction would limit you to only grabbing only the other subtypes that aren't mentioned on the 1st card. But, I honestly think the combination of any of these 2 subtypes would be way too convoluted in terms of how they would address the initial wording in tandem with one another. I mean imagine trying to cram the wording template of Geminis with Spirits or even Unions... I think it would be a wall of text that no one would want to be involved in.

I doubt Konami will ever go into the idea of having 2 "abilities" (Spirit/Toon/Gemini/whatever) unless they just abbreviate the standard text or omit it / expect players to recall it from the rulebook (which is the case for certain games). However, I digress and that's a side discussion. (Not that it stopped Shinobarons / Pendulum Spirits from being Ritual Spirits and Pendulum Spirits, respectively).

Other than that, card is technically fine as a searcher since all of them do lack some form of "consistent" searching power and whatnot. Granted, you don't have to search 2 cards with it, but then you gain no hand advantage from only searching 1 card with this.

Works fine, but just requires that you sacrifice some consistency to get access to them because some of the good targets are technically engine pieces outside their intended usage. Until you get a Deck that can utilize different subtypes/abilities without resorting to outside engines to plus, yeah.

Asked because I kind of have an idea of an archetype that does combine 2 subtypes, and was curious on how those would hypothetically interact with this card.

Other subtypes to tech that occur to me are Ryko, Guard Dog and other Level3 or lower Beast Flips along anything running Rescue Cat. Ryko is an all-around good Flip to tech, too. The Pendulum Spirits looks like good tech picks as well. The ideas just keep coming xD

Funnily enough, this could have been a problem card if Empty Jar was still a thing.

Considering the subtypes that have Pendulums.... That may make the card shine provided we get more of them... There is a Flip Pendulum too:http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Performapal_Momoncarpet , but it would kill itself with the 1 Scale Spirit Pendulum after Pendulum Summoning because the Pendulum Spirit bounces back to the hand after doing so. Lol

Also, I hope Jars never comeback... Morphing Jar #2 ruined one of my Quasar runs when I unwittingly flipped one with Junk Gardna's effect prior to getting ready to Summon Quasar. To this day, I'm still triggered. XD
