How do you get your ideas on original archetypes?

1) Find mechanic or playstyle that obscure or abandoned like Flips, Spirit,Senet, etc

2) cross-refrences some old effects that can boost those mechanic. If its not PSCT standarize find the closest wording for it (like me phinx archetype that boost flip monster using DM era big shield gardna quick self flip effect)

3) or alternatively find competitive mechanic that can boost the mechanic you want to highlight (i find pendulum cut Gemini investment greatly for example)

well that's about it if not either tailor monster typing and attribute that got more support or making your flavorful own if they seems can stand on its own (+point for original lore)

In my case the "Archetype Game" in the game subsection helps a lot. The suggested archetype name is enough to spark some ideas. I have come up with IMO decent concepts from that thread, although where I get stuck is with following up with making cards for an archetype.

Even if you don't play the game, surely you can take a look at the thread and read the entries to steal get inspiration for more unique mechanics and concepts.

Sometimes I get stuck when I have an idea in my head, but the mechanic for that original archetype is already used by existing OCG/TCG archetypes. What do you guys do to get out of such block, or to find new ideas in the first place?

while less effective in general, brainstorming one card you really like, and then refining all the ways you wanted to make said card, while retaining 1 or 2 unique gimmick combinations throughout (think B.A. or Shaddolls) into an archetype can do wonders as far as starting off. past that, once you get the set laid out, all you have to do is refine the effects one by one with strong (but non-broken) interactions in mind.
