Have some cards, (yes, even behind the WARNING spoiler) and a word from our sponsor (that means me.)
Been loaded down with work, both on cards and off-house, so it's nice to end a productive Sunday night, kicking back, relaxing....
and powering out a end-run support line to the original Machine Union monsters, the Machina.
Yea, this set was the bomb in GOAT Format, thanks to Fortress's recoverability and comboriffic nature with Gearframe and Force, combined with then-powerful defensive effects that guaranteed your opponent would take a loss no matter how they put it off the field.
Now? The only Machine Union Deck making rounds is doing so because of the world's most-busted Link and owning the third most-busted Field Spell ever made (behind Chicken Game and SPYRAL Resort, and just ahead of Divine Wind.) And this iconic Deck is barely even talked about anymore, except as a go-to manual as to how NOT to incorporate two wildly different mechanics into one archetype
(ironic considering its native Type, hair-rendingly frustrating considering this is not even the THIRD Machine Archetype to fall victim to this lackluster playstyle/conflicting identities dual kiss of death.
So here comes some movers and shakers (and literal ground-breakers) to save the dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy like its Mighty Mouse all over again but yeah this analogy got the hell away from me didn't it
Acutally gives it ways to maintain board presence-especially since any Force retrieval turns into twice the field prescence it once did thanks to Automatron and having a not-too-shabby Xyz to cap it all off-the first ever Xyz Union monster made from the BlaDeS of Change Workshop too!
EARTH/Machine-Type Effect Monster/Level 1/200 ATK/100 DEF
Lore: If you Special Summon a Machina monster(s): You can Special Summon this card from your hand or GY. When this card is Summoned: You can send 1 "Machina" monster or "Commander Covington" from your Deck to the GY; this card gains ATK equal to the original ATK of the sent monster, then this card's name becomes that monster's and it gains that monster's effects. If this card is sent to the GY: You can target 1 EARTH monster you control with 1000 or less ATK; it gains 800 ATK for each "Machina" card you control, also it cannot attack directly. You can only Summon "Machina Easer(s)" once per turn.
EARTH/Machine-Type Union Effect Monster/Level 6/1900 ATK/800 DEF
Lore: (Quick Effect): You can reveal this card from your hand, then target 1 "Machina" card you control, except a Union monster; Special Summon this card from your hand, then return that target to the hand. If this card is Summoned: You can equip 1 Machine monster you control with 1 appropriate EARTH Union monster from your hand or Deck. Once per turn, you can either: Target 1 Machine monster you control; equip this card to that target, OR: Unequip this card and Special Summon it. If the equipped monster would be destroyed by battle or card effect, destroy this card instead.
EARTH/Machine-Type Effect Monster/Level 9/100 ATK/2100 DEF
Lore: You can banish Machine monsters from your GY whose total Levels equal 10 or more; Special Summon this card from your GY. If another Machine monster(s) you control is sent to the GY: You can Special Summon 2 Level 4 or lower "Machina" monsters and/or "Commander Covington(s)" (1 each from your hand and Deck), and if you do, this card gains ATK equal to those Summoned monsters' combined original ATK, until the end of the next turn. You can only use this effect of "Machina Automatron" once per turn.
Field Spell Card
Lore: Once per turn, if a Machine monster(s) in your hand is sent to the GY: You can draw 1 card and reveal it, and if it is an EARTH Union monster, you can equip it to an appropriate monster you control. You cannot Special Summon monsters the same turn you activate this effect, except Machine monsters. Once per turn, if a "Machina" card(s) leaves the Spell & Trap Zone by a card or effect: You can destroy 1 card on the field. Neither player can Tribute monsters they control that have not battled since last turn, nor use them as Fusion, Synchro, or Link Materials for a Summon.
Machina Assault Unit
Continuous Spell Card
Lore: Once per turn, if a Machine monster(s) is sent from your hand or field to the GY to activate a card or effect: You can target 1 "Machina" monster in your Spell & Trap Zone or your GY; Special Summon that target if it is a Union monster, and if you do, that monster gains 500 ATK/DEF. Otherwise, add it to your hand.
Machina Fabbery Unit
Normal Trap Card
Lore: Activate 1 "Machina Armored Unit" or 1 "Machina Assault Unit" from your Deck or GY, and if you do, all monsters on the field lose 200 ATK/DEF for each face-up "Machina" Spell/Trap you control. When there are exactly 4 Machine monsters in your GY: You can banish this card and 1 "Commander Covington" from your GY; Special Summon 1 "Machina Force" from your Deck or GY, ignoring its Summoning conditions. You can only use 1 "Machina Fabbery Unit" per turn, and only once that turn.
Machina Retrofitting Plant
Normal Trap Card
Lore: When you have no "Machina" monsters in your GY: You can return up to 5 of your banished "Machina" monsters to your GY, and if you do, draw 1 card for every 2 cards returned by this effect. "You can only activate 1 "Machina Retrofitting Plant" per turn.

Lore: 3+ Level 4 Machine monsters
EARTH/Machine-Type Xyz Union Effect Monster/Rank 8/2700 ATK/0 DEF
