I hate this kid, I can't stand him... and I'm gonna have sex with his mom while his dad watches. Here are some reasons for my random rage-filled post.

[spoilersArchetype addiction]I counted, Yuma has 7 main Archetypes (Gagaga, Gogogo, Dododo, Zubaba, Utopia/Utopic, Number, and ZW-), as well as 3 sub-Archetypes (Number C, Number C39/Number C39: Utopia Ray, and Number S from the manga); for a grand total of 10 Archetypes in 1 Deck (if I missed any please let me know). I know that some of these "Archetypes" shouldn't even qualify because they have so few members and support, but the fact that they do exist and Konami tried to make Yuma's Deck (and failed) tells me that Yuma is just some high-off-his-ass punk tween whose trying too hard to play a children's card game (sometimes on motorcycles but in this case with scouters). I can't even think of 10 Archetypes in this game outside of Yuma's Decks that could synergize so well with each other, yeah you could play 1 or 2 cards each from about 2 or more Archetypes in the same Deck that could work off each other, but nobody who seriously plays this game is going to attempt trying to make 10 supported Archetypes fit into one Deck, hell most don't even try more than 3 because at some point you would run into a lot of issues regarding consistency. Now I get that was Konami's intention and to be fair we've come along way since ZEXAL, and there have been plenty of Decks that do work with more than 2 or 3 Archetypes in the same Deck, a good example is a Pendulum Magician Deck that involves the "Magician" Pendulum Monsters, as well as Performapal and/or Odd-Eyes cards, oh and these Archetypes were originally designed to have synergy so its ok if you play them in the same Deck, in some cases you're supposed to do that; but none of that is an excuse for why Yuma's Deck is as dysfunctional as it is and I think Konami could've done far better if they even cared.

[spoilersCult of bad personality]He's annoying, there I said it. In the English dub or even the Japanese sub, he always came off as just a loudmouth idiot that's just trying to get on board some trend because he saw it on Instagram. Always shouting when he was trying to talk, backtalking anyone and everyone he could regardless if they were trying to help him or not, on that note Astral did most of the heavy-lifting during their Duels. The one thing that couldn't stand as the ZEXAL series progressed was Yuma's cocky attitude about his alleged "dueling skills", when as I just said Astral did most of the work but the rest of the time it was just plain ham-fisted luck wrote into those scenes by the studio so they could keep the story chugging along. I mean who remembers all of the "draw" abilities from ZEXAL, like Shining Draw, Dark Draw, then you had the Barian's Chaos Draw (I know Yuma didn't do that), but the entire "draw" ability thing they were pushing throughout most of the latter part of the series and especially when it came to Yuma was clearly done as a bad attempt to sell those Decks in the OCG/TCG. The reason why I say it was a bad attempt is because if you were to play those Decks back then but you didn't use a lot of cards that were released during the ZEXAL era, then you'd notice how there was a severe lack in consistency for a lot of those Decks, not all of them but a lot of them none the less and the only way to have a competitive level of consistency was to either use cards that were not in ZEXAL or basically cheat (like they did in the anime much of the time). One more thing, HE FORGOT ABOUT HIS PARENTS; he started the series looking for his mom and dad, he gets to Astral World at one point where they are but never bothers to look for them but instead duels Eliphas and after he wins, goes out to duel the Barians even though his parents are right there and he could've at least said hi to them. Such a dick.

[spoilersAstral was a better character]As I just said, Astral did most of the work for Yuma during their duels, but let's be honest, he's a better character too and probably should've been the main protagonist instead of Yuma. Think about it, Astral is an alien being from another world that has a vast knowledge about dueling (because plot convenience) which makes sense considering Xyz Monsters were marketed as cards "from the other side of a black hole"; he's also punctual, he is calm and able to think his way out of most situations, has a lot of legit skill at dueling, and is constantly trying to learn from others around him. He even has a dark past and a personal connection to the main antagonist of the series, Don Thousand. From a character perspective, Astral should've been the best choice to sell the series, but no instead we get a random 13 yr old squealer straight from Call of Duty trying to play a trading card game while using his alleged MLG skills (insert random MLG memes here).

You forgot about the Djinns. You know, those Xyzs that Yuma suddenly started using for no apparent reason halfway through Season 1.
To add to your critique, you also forgot that Yuma's strategies contradicted one of the main aspects of the show. He had the Gagagas, who could manipulate Levels, to let him toolbox into virtually any Xyz he might ever want to go into. He had several Numbers at the start of the World Duel Carnival, and had 50 Numbers at the start of ZEXAL II. But what does he do instead of using the fact that his Numbers are stored in such a way that they don't technically count to his Extra Deck limit? He summons Utopia 99% of the time, and if that doesn't work, he makes Utopia bigger through an upgrade, some ZWs, or whatever. Everything he has boils down to a beatdown strategy focusing around one monster. He rarely considers attempting to make any other Numbers that might help him in that particular situation. I can think of multiple instances where, say, going for Big Eye would have helped him better, or any of the other Numbers he collected.
When ZEXAL started, I was hoping that ZEXAL's Number gimmick would make it like Pokemon: Yuma would "catch" the Number of the week, then, later on, start incorporating that Number into his strategies, like an actual duelist finds new cards to improve his Deck. It would have made the show seem a lot smarter, and Yuma would get to develop into a better duelist by having him actually improve and grow as he increased his arsenal. Then, when Yuma's ace monster got a Chaos form, I figured that maybe, he would try to get Chaos forms of other Numbers, since it only took 18 episodes to get one for Utopia. But by the time the World Duel Carnival came around, it was clear that Yuma would be more or less a one-trick pony, which disappointed me, since Yusei, being the poster child of the Synchro era, used a wide variety of different Synchros to show off the Synchro mechanic, while Yuma...didn't do that for Xyzs. Sure, he had the occasional alternative Xyz, but most of the time, his plan was to smack his opponents in the face with Utopia until they lost.

Thank you for more making more critiques, where I forgot. Yes, the Djinn Xyz Monsters were pointless and they just came and went, his overall strategy was Utopia... and that's it. I'm so glad someone else out there hates Yuma the way I do.

You're welcome. By the way, Yuma used non-Number Xyzs more than he used Number Xyzs that were not Utopia-related.

Thought that would be an interesting fact to mention.

Wow, how badly did Studio Gallop or Konami screw up ZEXAL, but then again it made money so I guess its all good.
