They can't do that because it takes less than a second to pull out a knife and kill someone in melee range

at the onset, the police got the wrong address (so they were told), and likely would have left without incident (or with minimal inquiry) had everybody kept their cool. they had no more reason to be there once they informd the cops that nobody had been involved in violence, and would likely have asked just one or two more questions for their later report, before heading out.

 

but what happened? one of the men gets agitated for zero reason, and decides the better idea is to argue with the police, and in the middle of an argument with the police, grabs his kid, as if they were a shield against harm. this provides further incentive to the police to pursue the issue, as a man has essentially picked up a child in an agitated state, all the while arguing with police officers. 

 

the entire issue is a shitshow, and the man who grabbed his kid to use as a shield, has proven himself to be a sheet parent. i don't care what happens to them, if a parent is in an altercation with anybody, be they cops, gangs, or any other potentially violent confrontation, the first thing they need to do is to send their kid as far away as possible to avoid potential harm. the cops themselves asked that the baby be removed in case things got ugly, the man himself dragged the kid into it, using them as a shield. the cops were wrong to tase the guy with a kid, but the man is absolute trash for not only starting the altercation, but for dragging the kid into it in the first place.

first and foremost, that's an entirely different thing. the man wasn't a jihadist, he was just at a barbeque. odds of him having a bomb on him aside from some bomb grilled chicken are isnsanely low, pretty much zero

 

that said, there does exist precedent for police (and other civillians) being assaulted by hand, from people who are holding babies, who for some stupid reason think that having a child as a shield is gonna prevent them from getting beat dropped in response. i doubt that was likely here, but the precedent exists.

Damn.  Basically ninja'd.  Also, I'm kinda pissed that the other guy didn't take the kid from the dude who got tasered LONG before he got tasered.  It was funking clear there was gonna be an altercation.  They let it escalate and the kid got hurt.  I'm pissed at everyone involved EXCEPT THE BABY.

basically. all sides could have handled this better. the cops should have worked harder to deescalate the situation, and damn sure shouldn't have tased the man while he had a kid (i get why they did, but it still doesn't make it a good idea) in all honesty, the very fact that nobody tried to stop him from putting the child in such a situation, or try to retrieve the kid after realizing where things were going, is pretty strong grounds for CPS to take that child, this was one of those moments where everybody played stupid games, and everybody got stupid prizes.
