Blackwing Amore Maestro (Winged Beast/DARK/Link/Effect/ATK 2000/LINK-2)

Link Arrows: → ↓

2 monsters, including 1 "Blackwing" monster

If a "Blackwing" monster is Special Summoned to a zone this card points to: Place a number of Black Feather Counters on this card equal to that monster's original Level. You can only use this effect of "Blackwing Amore Maestro" once per turn. Once per turn, during damage calculation, if this card or a "Blackwing" monster it points to battles an opponent's monster (Quick Effect): You can remove any number of Black Feather Counters from this card; your opponent takes all battle damage you would have taken from that battle plus 200 additional damage for each Black Feather Counter removed.

Blackwing Wedge Wing (Winged Beast/DARK/Link/Effect/ATK 2300/LINK-3)

Link Arrows: ← ↙ ↓

2+ monsters, including 1 "Blackwing" monster

If this card is Link Summoned: Place 1 Wedge Counter on as many monsters your opponent controls as possible (max. 1). During your opponent's Main Phase, if this card does not point to any monsters (Quick Effect): You can remove 2 or more Wedge Counters from anywhere on the field, then banish the same number of "Blackwing" monsters from your field and/or GY (you can only banish 1 Tuner this way), whose total Levels exactly equal the Level of 1 "Blackwing" Synchro Monster in your Extra Deck, and if you do; Special Summon that monster from your Extra Deck to your zone this card points to. (This is treated as a Synchro Summon.) You can only use this effect of "Blackwing Wedge Wing" once per turn.

Nothing generic here at all? Awww...I was hoping for at least 1 Winged Beast Link with a bit of potential play, but these cards are so archetypal it takes Zefra to a whole new level, and even they have a generic Link.

Maestro is really underwhelming. It's a nice burn, but you're losing a monster. It can't even take advantage of the one that places Wedge Counters when it attacks, as no damage is taken anyway. A small burn is alright, but Blackwings have enough means of dealing with the opponent's monsters. There's no real reason for it to be a quick effect, as you're either using the counters on your turn and not replenishing them due to Blackwings not being a very SS2 Deck, or saving them for your opponent so they can Raigeki this or whatever.

Wedge is...weird. Not great for early game plays, which is weird, as that's when Blackwings tend to shine, but still usable if you open decently. The banishing should probably be part of the effect, with just the counter removing as the cost...little less awkward to word, you know? Regardless, it doesn't really seem to fix any of the issues they have (right level, easily doing 6 and 7 when they want).

These cards look like something one would make after just seeing the new set of support for Blackwings; using those weird counter mechanics, only one of which people use, and even then, using them in weird ways that, while still being useful, just stand out thematically.

I was just trying to support both the Black Feather Counters and Wedge Counters for Blackwings like Blackwing - Auster the South Winds, yeah I could've done better but I was trying to be niche and give Blackwings some Link Monsters (so they can be like the other cool trendy kids).
