Hawaiian roughly translates to "Strive for the summit" (in this context, the summit being the championship [i guess], so...)

=====

Welcome to the 9th YCM Pokémon Tournament.
This will be a battle of supremacy until only one Pokemon remains.

Trainers, are you ready to put your teams to the ultimate test?

ARCHIVE OF PAST TOURNAMENTS

NOMINATION STATUS: OPEN

=======

[spoiler=Rulebook]

All YCM rules apply.

Any rulebreaking WILL result in forum punishments, such as warn increases, post locking, suspension (temporary banning) / permaban, in addition to being barred from participating for the rest of the tournament.

(Seriously guys, just behave and me or one of the other moderators won't have to penalize you.)

=====

With that out of the way...

1. You are permitted to nominate up to 16 Pokemon (2 teams + 4 backup 'mons), but you are not required to use all of them.

After a certain point, I will let the RNG decide the remaining nominations or let you guys throw in more.

(This will be a 128 competitor tournament, though I am open to expanding it a bit more if you want it.)

2. Pokemon that have been officially released are eligible for competition.

(This means no Eternal Floette or anything that isn't available outside hacking.)

3. Evolutionary lines will be treated as their own species, as will Pokemon with Alolan/alternate forms and/or have significant changes to their types/BST.

Pokemon that won't be considered as having special forms: Basculin, Oricorio, Sawsbuck, Keldeo, everything else listed under "Minor Forms"

(Their alternate sprites/models will be alternated throughout tournament if they survive long enough. Keldeo will be using Resolute Form sprite)

Specific instances of a Pokemon will be treated as the same one for the purpose of this tournament. This means all instances of Pokemon like Lucario, Pikachu, Eevee, etc. count as the generic form. Mega Evolutions do not count as different Pokemon.

4. Pokemon can only be nominated once. If another member nominates the Pokemon you want, then you have to choose another one.

That being said, you have 807 'mons to choose from and surely there's plenty you like from those. Also a note that alternate forms count as individual 'mons, so feel free to pick from those if you need to. Make sure you denote what form you are choosing.

5. You are allowed to change your nominations ONCE, but you must notify me when this happens.

(This applies to changing 'mons that are already on this list. Adding more to your nomination pool will not count as this)

6. All members must remain civil throughout the competition. This means no fighting with each other over what people voted for, and/or their opinions on particular competitors. You can say things about the Pokemon in question, but NOT about members who vote for them.

7. If you decide to post a written vote, you must write at least 15-20 words explaining your decision. I don't need to read essays on who you voted for, but at least write something substantial instead of shortposting.

DO NOT shitpost in the tournament threads, nor start drama. Anyone caught doing this or misbehaving in the thread will be severely punished (i.e. given WP, temp banned, loss of privileges, etc.) and barred from further participation in the tournament.

8. No using alternate accounts to vote for Pokemon.

I will be running IP checks if accounts seem suspicious, and if you are caught doing so, your votes WILL be disregarded / you will be banned from voting for the remainder of the tournament, in addition to getting forum sanctions.

9. Do not influence other people to vote for a certain 'mon.

We want our nominations to win, but just play fair.

10. Have fun.

[spoiler=Match format]

Similar to GPT 8, this tournament shall be conducted as double elimination. There will be a standard bracket and a loser bracket as a second chance thing in case the RNG screws over participants (and it will).

Round 1 (Preliminary A) - 64 matches [4P] - 128 winners- 2 votes

Round 2 (Preliminary B) - 32 matches [4P] - 64 winners - 2 votes

Round 3 (Best of 64) - 32 matches [2P] - 32 winners - 1 vote

Round 4 (Best of 32) - 16 matches [2P] - 16 winners - 1 vote

Round 5 (Best of 16) - 8 matches [2P] - 8 winners - 1 vote

Round 6 (Quarterfinals) - 4 matches [2P] - 4 winners - 1 vote

Round 7 (Semifinals) - 2 matches [2P] - 2 winners - 1 vote

Round 8 (Finals) - 1 match [2P] - 1 winner - 1 vote

The format for the loser bracket will generally follow the same style.

These will generally happen after the regular bracket so we don't forget them later on.

I will try to do the preliminaries in 2-3 tiers.

=====

For the 4P matches, top 2 will move on. However, if any ties persist, those with the highest vote totals will move on.

I will not be doing any coin flips or other methods of tiebreaking, so don't worry if your vote causes a tie. I will just figure out the amount of matches with added participants algebraically using the following.

A + B = C
Ax + By = D

where A and B are the number of standard and augmented matches respectively, x and y are the number of 'mons in each match respectively and D is the total number of Pokemon fighting in that particular round.

=====

Matches will be open for 48 hours after they are posted, with all times listed in Hawaiʻi Standard Time (GMT/UTC -10:00)

I don't observe daylight savings time, so it is your responsibility to convert the end times to whenever the competition ends in your respective areas.

Huh, can we nominate Pokemon that have won in previous tournament? I don't spot any rule against that.

To confirm this answer, yes, you may nominate the previous 8 winners. I put that lock in place for previous tournaments so other 'mons get their chance instead of it being another sweep by same 'mon (and thing ends up as a meme). If I did bar previous winners, then I would've told Sage to change his nomination of Zigzagoon.

Also note that Shiny Scolipede will be treated as standard Scolipede, as will any shiny forms.

Anyway...I'll add all of the nominations that were made after previous post shortly.

I just ran this through the alphabetizer and we have 127 entries already, parsing any duplicates I didn't catch (meaning we could start this thing up if you want to add 1 more nom).

Could bump it up to 160 so we get 5P matches (but would still run the same way as if we were going 128). It'd let you nominate some more stuff that couldn't be added right now. It just means that 60% of the nominations will be landing up in the loser bracket after the first round instead of 50%.

(Iffy about going 256 again in light of the new rules we set for Polls and my courseload, which was partly the reason for why it took GPT 8 over a year. So yeah, you may also take this as a warning that if I do not post matches immediately afterwards, it's usually due to coursework [which is higher than last year].)
