Gullveig of the Nordic Ascendant

Link1/LIGHT/Fairy/Effect/ATK 800

1 Level 5 or lower "Nordic" monster

If this card is Link Summoned: You can banish up to 3 cards from your hand and/or field, and if you do, Special Summon that many "Nordic" monsters from your Deck in Defense Position, also, for the rest of this turn, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Aesir" monsters, nor Normal Summon/Set any monsters. You can only use this effect of "Gullveig of the Nordic Ascendant" once per turn. While this card points to an "Aesir" monster, your opponent cannot target that monster with card effects, also monsters your opponent controls cannot target this card for attacks.

Alviss Of The Nordic Alfar

LV4/DARK/Spellcaster/ATK 1500/DEF 1000

If only this card is banished by the effect of a "Nordic" Link monster: you can send to the GY, 1 "Nordic" monster you control and 2 "Nordic" monsters from your deck, whose total levels equal 10, then special summon 1 "Aesir" monster from your Extra Deck. If an "Aesir" monster(s) in your possession is sent to your GY by your opponent's card: you can banish this card from your GY; special summon 1 "Aesir" monster from your extra deck with a different name from the cards in your GY. You can only use this effect of "Alviss Of The Nordic Alfar" once per duel.

Weird, so you want to banish Alviss Of The Nordic Alfar with Gullveig of the Nordic Ascendant so you can reduce the cost to only 1 card instead of banishing 3 cards for a Nordic. Banishing 3 cards is probably not super worth it, but it sounds like there are more coming, since Alviss Of The Nordic Alfar doesn't specify what Link Monster. Either way, Nordic getting a new way to play was probably a good idea, since they are pretty outdated, but this is clearly not enough.

Those cards sound like fun, getting out a targeting proof aesir with just 2 cards sounds like fun, it would not make them great or even good, though at the very least tolerable.

I like this support, it adds a certain incentive to playing them (though without further support they are still crap anyways).

I would really like more support for them, like actually solid maindeck monsters (like dverg, the relic searcher) and a relic E-Call.

2 cards wont make Nordics playable (unless they give them a SoJ). A little more flexibility on those effects wouldnt have hurt that much though.

But hey at least this link monster does something unlike some other overhyped Link that was a huge dissapointment

At the very least they are consistent, get the job done (whatever that is worth) and have synergy with backrow and handtraps (banishing the not needed as fuel, which means they can play enormous amounts).

That being said, they still need more support (which they might actually get in SoFu) and the new maindeck Nordic should really treat those Summons as Synchro Summons, not even allowing them to float is disappointing.

Edit: I agree that these are much better than Xtra Hero Dread Disappointer.

The effect is OPD, and it doesn't even get treated as a synchro summon. I know 4k ATK is the most broken thing ever/s, but the overall power of this support is surprisingly low. The cards are decent, but on both of them, you can clearly see where they could have easily been better, but konami decided to just say nope, and left them in this state.

I love the fact that nordics are getting decent support, but i really wish they'd have given them just a little more bit in their effects.

You talking about that last effect? Sure it is, but that isn't even what makes that card a good card, it's a neat bonus effect, and the chance of that situation really happening isn't super high anyway, will most likely only happen once per duel.

So, if you have gullveig banish alviss and 1 other card, you get to summon Thor, which can't be targeted. I'm pretty sure Thor is the best, because the wide negation feels sweet for breaking boards. Not to say pulling this off is too feasible against a board you want to break.

Feels a lot like jiaotu. You don't need as specific of cards in hand, but the ceiling is miles lower.

Why 1 other card ?

Alviss tributes the monster the Link 1 summons.

Any level 5 or lower Nordic + Alviss ends on the Link 1 + a linked "Aesir".

And the main issue is that if the Link 1 gets negated Nordics have no further plays and just end on a 800 Atk monster, which means they have a (practically) empty board.

yeah idk how I ended up with that tbh, my mistake.

Hence comparison to Jiaotu, yeah. This feels like medium risk for mediocre reward, honestly.

The fact that it's restricted to once per duel hurts the deck overall (i mean, these cards already boost the deck leagues above what it once was, but still). but while i don't like that (Hard OPT would have been just fine imo) what i'm talking about is the fact that it doesn't treat the summon as a synchro summon. The  bosses all can revive themselves if killed, but since this doesn't treat the summon as a synchro, anything gained off of the effect will automatically be gimped on arrival, as they won't be able to come back, no matter how they're removed. that's where the true problem is. the deck has more than enough problems, they could have at least avoided this one.

I would have preferred that the Link said "Aesir monsters that a Link Monster(s) points to cannot be targeted".

Link 1 pointing down means 1 Aesir protected at a time and bringing out more requires laddering into something that won't provide the protection.

This seems like it puts too much of a brake on the plays, as much as it can give you the materials for 1 of them, while the combo brings out the second, and a GY effect brings out the third Aesir. I sure hope higher Links are made for this.

If I recall, it was hard enough to use Loki and Odin, even when not trying to run all 3. Especially Loki's Nordic minions' horrible Level combinations.

Then even when you do bring out all 3, they don't really present a big obstacle to take down. Hmmm....
