Hyper Psychic Rider

Level 6 EARTH

Psychic/Synchro/Effect

1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monster

Monsters with ATK less than this card’s ATK cannot attack, and monsters on the field with ATK higher than this card’s ATK cannot activate effects. If this card is destroyed and sent to the GY by your opponent: You can target 2 monsters in your GY with the same Type and Attribute (1 Tuner and 1 non-Tuner); add those monsters to your hand. You can only activate this effect of "Hyper Psychic Rider" once per turn.

Interesting little guy, with the other two Psychics that were revealed, you get to keep making Level 6 Synchros with them and have an annoying lockdown as well. A decent card but making a Psychic Deck focused on that is hard. More is needed.

The issue is that it limits the wrong stats, preventing monsters with lower ATK is situational and the monsters increasing the ATK of this monster actually contradicts the last bit of presence this Synchro has.

Depends on the situation I would say, higher ATK monsters also tend to have more threatening effects, and as for the lockdown, well if you boost this high enough, it can just make your opponent unable to attack at all, so that's pretty nice, and with the 600 bonus, that means most monsters are taken care of.

It's not hard, you've got Overdrive Teleporter, Brain Research Lab, Blue Layer + Red Layer engine, plus a bunch of other goodies to help you. (just beware of Effect Veilier/Ash Blossom when using Overdrive Teleporter.)

 

As for this card, it seems like the worst of the 3 new monsters, as there isn't exactly a lack of decent Synchros to summon. That being said, this could certainly be useful for protecting a board full of weaker monsters, and the float effect is really good. What I like about the float effect is that it DOESN'T have to be Synchro Summoned to activate it - meaning if you revive it, it will still work. The effect prevention seems most useful against cards like Saryuja Skull Dread.

 

Bonus point for being named after my favourite Synchro Monster.

Yea ... with the 600 boost not even Firewall Dragon gets blocked and what is the point in restricting attacks if you a) have a stronger monster anyways and b) have to invest even more resources in a monster with no protection whatsoever.

The Atk boost would be more helpful if it would decrease the Atk instead, which is just silly.

So, did they make it negate higher attack monsters' effects instead of lower ones that way you couldn't abuse this in Burning Abyss?

 

Like I'm 75 percent sure that the self destruction effect activates, right?

This card doesn't negate any effects, so regardless it doesn't matter if it was changed. It prevents effect activations, the destruction of the BA monsters is not that.

Moon mirror shield could help make this card really annoying against decks that need big bosses. If you can drop this to 0, you'd have a really good floating skill drain. In fact, 2 of these things with different values on board would be a nightmare to face off against.

 

One of these might not be a problem, but two of them might be pretty fun to throw around.

I mean, you can have 2.  Only the higher ATK one will be able to attack though.  Neither lockdown effect activates, so they don't get in each other's way (in terms of negating each other).

 

...The only problem is if your opponent destroys the higher ATK one (and you had lowered the ATK of the other one), you wouldn't get the float effect.

Why wouldn’t you?

 

The activation prevention only hits monsters on the field.
