Disciples of the Strongest Hero: A One Punch Man RP [IC/Waitlist/Started/PG-16]

The peace of the lazy Sunday summer day across L-City was suddenly broken by the sound of emergency sirens, echoing through the streets. The crowds of strollers, commuters and shopkeepers collectively gasped and whispered to each other, holding their children close as distant explosions shook the air.

“Attention! This is an announcement from the Hero Association. Multiple Wolf level threats throughout L-City have been reported. All citizens are advised to evacuate to the nearest secure shelter immediately until the all-clear.”

Immediately after the loudspeakers finished blasting the pre-recorded announcement, all mobile devices in the city started vibrating and ringing, displaying the same emergency message. The strollers and shopkeepers, already used to such alerts, started evacuating the streets and shuttering their storefronts until the streets were left barren, without only a few abandoned shopping bags indicating the presence of any people.

After a few moments of eerie stillness, only broken by the wailing sirens and the occasional rumbling of collapsing concrete, a small group of people rushed down the street towards the source of the explosions, each wielding great power. Each one received the same message:

“THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM THE HERO ASSOCIATION. MULTIPLE WOLF LEVEL THREATS DETECTED IN CENTRAL L-CITY. REPORTS OF ROBOTIC BEINGS BREAKING INTO APARTMENTS, ENDANGERING CITIZENS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT. MULTIPLE C-CLASS HEROES DEPLOYED UNABLE TO CONTAIN THREAT. CURRENT THREAT LEVEL: TIGER.

Following another string of explosions, the heroes rushed down the street towards the city centre.

---

The city centre was in chaos. A squadron of four ten-foot tall humanoid robots rolled down the street on their metal treads, tearing up the street beneath them. The robots fired their machine guns mounted on their right arm from behind massive shields they carried on their left, suppressing a pair of C-class heroes hiding behind a rapidly deteriorating piece of concrete rubble they were using as cover. Panzerfaust, one of the heroes hiding behind what used to be the floor of an apartment building, peeked out from behind his cover and attempted to aim his weapon to fire back at his assailants, only to be forced behind cover by another hail of gunfire. Cyberman, the other hero, held his hands over his helmeted head, babbling offers of surrender to himself.

While the footsoldiers wreaked havoc on the street, a large flying robot, held aloft by eight rotors fifteen stories above the ground, scanned the glassy side of an apartment building, sweeping the building with a net of lasers.  Upon detecting inhabitants attempting to escape deeper into the building, the flying machine aimed a large cannon mounted underneath its body, firing a laser into the building, causing a massive explosion that shattered all of the windows and revealing the residents within.

“FACIAL ANALYSIS COMPLETE. SUBJECT IDENTIFIED AS MATSUOKA KURO. INITIATING CAPTURE PROTOCOL.”

A male resident of one of the apartments, still clad in his pajamas, hung from the edge of the floor of his apartment, trying to pull himself out of danger, only to be suddenly grabbed by a robotic arm, which closed its claw around his waist and dragging him away. The man screamed and wailed as he struggled from his bonds, eyes wide with terror as his grip on his home was torn away. Like a demon bird of prey, the flying robot carried its prize through the air, heading towards the nearby coastline.

Daigo listened to the alert on his phone as it rang off in his pocket.  He was sweating profusely, as he chugged an entire gallon of water down his gullet.  Wiping his forehead with a towel, he started to put on his hero outfit.  He effortlessly made his tie all neat and snazzy, before setting out of his house.

"L-City, huh?"  He said, stretching his trunk from side to side.  "That's pretty close."  He sighed, as he bent over to touch his toes.  "But Tiger class?  Seems a bit underwhelming."  He took a deep breath, before dashing off in a blur.  "It'll be a good post-exercise exercise!"  He said with a smile.  It didn't take him long to run all the way to Central L-City.  The first thing that caught his attention was the sound of gunfire.  Parading down the street were four large humanoid robots, with the street crumbling below their treads.  Behind some rubble, some other heroes seemed to be panicking.  He joined them, placing his back against the rubble.

"You guys did your best, but stand back and let a big shot handle this!"  He then handed them both a flyer, advertising his hero self-defense class.  "You might wanna try it out sometime."  He smiled, before jumping up into the air.  He had jumped high enough to see the robots from a bird's eye view.  Daigo started his descent by jutting out his knee, preparing it to crash into one of the robots' face.  "Kneeteor!"  He cried, slamming the knee into the strong metal with an impact that would knock the other's off guard.

"...is what it says."

Hah! Let me at 'em!

As Nanami hurried to the scene, she could already get a look at the threat. Robots. Big ones at that. Four of them were on the ground, but one was flying off...

Hit THAT one! Throw a car at it or something! Shoot it out of the sky!

"We can't just solve all our problems by throwing cars at them, Krohka!" However, looking at the direction that flying robot was headed... yeah, she'd have to take that one down fast, if she was going to do so at all. Nanami glanced around. She'd have to throw something at... over there! A busted-up car. It looked like one of the ground robots had gotten to it already. Under any other circumstance, she'd have concerns about chucking automobiles around, but it wasn't like whoever owned that car would still be able to use it, right? Best of all, the engine was still intact. Sticking her hand into it, Nanami let out a small amount of fire. Just enough to make sure it wouldn't go out, but not so much to blow the thing up in her face immediately. Nanami then picked up the car, and reared it back, requiring both arms for the task.

I thought we couldn't solve all our problems by throwing cars at them.

"This is an exception." With that, Nanami chucked the car toward the flying drone, aiming at its rotors. She couldn't imagine the one "car grenade" was enough to stop the robot entirely, but hopefully, it would slow the thing down enough for everyone else to deal with it.

Now get on its back and punch it to death!

"No way."

You're no fun.

Turning her attention to the ground robots, Nanami explained to her symbiote, "That one's flying toward the coast. If we take too long to take it down, we'll end up over the ocean. Not worth the risk if you ask me."

Fine. At least beat up those ones over there.

"That's the plan." With that, Nanami crouched down, then leapt forward with all the strength in her legs, charging through the air at the grounded robots like a red blur. Another hero had already arrived on the scene, attacking one of the robots, and shouting out some attack name. Nanami had yet to really think of those. Wasn't it embarrassing to shout those out like that anyway? "I'll leave the entrance to you, Krohka."

My pleasure! The living suit over Nanami's body extended upward, over her neck and covering her head entirely, making it more immediately visible under the near-trademarked red raincoat draped over Nanami's body. Krohka made to create some bursts of fire from its feet to further boost the leap's speed, but felt something... That idiot left her boots on! She knows how much I like doing fire from my feet!

I can still hear you. Not that you can read my mind or anything.

Alright, let's improvise. Krohka aimed its hands directly behind itself, then let loose with the flames, further bolstering its speed as it and Nanami rammed head-first into one of the other robots. "Torchpedo!"

Even having you as a suit of armor, I still felt that a little. Ow... you should have said we were going to headbutt it.

This seemed like one bad situation...but then again, this seemed easy enough. Multiple Wolf levels and it making the threat level just end up being a Tiger level? That just made it sound like a challenge now. Besides, recently, it had been kind of quiet...so it was definitely a sign from the heavens that this would definitely help shake things up and make things interesting.

Four large humanoid robots...didn't seem too much of an issue. Not only that, he already had his entrance covered. And all it took was commandeering a motorcycle from a person, then again, with this type of chaos, it didn't seem like they'd mind at this point. And right now, this jump from a building's roof...

-BGM-

Aegis let out a shout, as he drove the motorcycle off the building's roof, it making its descent in a rapid fashion. "First floor: killer robots and lingerie." he smirked, getting up from the motorcycle and kicking off it to have it launch itself straight into the one robot's face. "Now with that one preoccupied there..." he began, moving through the air as he gripped onto a nearby flagpole, that definitely breaking his descent. "Time to take out the soldiers."

After making it to the ground, Aegis began to rush towards the foot soldier robots. Lifting up Pridwen, he bashed one head on and smirked. "Alright rust buckets, eat this! Shield Slash!" he pivoted slightly, moving his left arm in a quick motion as he began to sling Pridwen off the mounted gauntlet as it struck a few robots in the process. Some moved out of the way, but Aegis simply tapped a small button on his gauntlet as the shield began to quickly return towards it's wielder, in the process knocking a few more robots out.

The moment Aegis' shield returned to it's mounted position, he looked around the area. Alright. Looks like there are plenty of heroes coming around to help, better late than never, I assume. he thought, looking around and seeing the general statistics his goggles were showing. Still, at this point, it's better than nothing.

Yukio went about enjoying a lazy summer morning, deciding to go out and buy some groceries to live off of for the next week or two. Having recently handled some minor level villains during the past few days, she was content with having a day off.

Though it seems it was not meant to be.

CURRENT THREAT LEVEL: TIGER."

The buzzer in her phone went off just as she was finishing up a transaction at a store. The warning message was loud enough that the old grandmother tending the cashier could hear it, despite Yukio's best attempts at ignoring it.

"Yer a hero, aint'cha lass? I saw yer face on TV the other day, so dun even think about lyin' to me."

She said to her, putting the plastic bag full of the young heroine's groceries behind the counter.

"Ma'am, the situation is being handled by other heroes. I want to get going so if you could plea-"

"Cut yer yappin, lass! Yer a hero! Git out there an' help your friends!"

Yukio reached out to grab her plastic bag, only for the old lady to slap her wrist with her cane. She looked rather pissed, seeing Yukio act like the trouble in L-City was none of her business. The girl replied with a blank stare as she fixed her glove, before quickly returning to her senses.

"Understood."

She said calmly, bowing towards her elder before exiting the storefront, immediately rushing towards the scene of the action. Even though it's supposed to be a lazy Sunday morning, heroes never rest, an important aspect that lapsed Yukio's mind for a moment.

Yukio arrived at the carnage unfolding in L-City. Just from a quick glance, she immediately noticed a few threats worth neutralizing or analyzing. Giant, mechanical robots, each armed with heavy weaponry and heavy shielding terrorizing the streets, a barrage of suppressing fire kept the C-Level heroes scattered at the area behind cover. Off the distance, a flying robot, held aloft by heavy rotors, seemingly carrying a live human as it flew off to the distance. From what little context and information she was given, Yukio immediately surmised that the human being whisked away is the "Target." , the foot soldiers are a mere "Distraction." and that the flying robot is most likely of "High importance."

"Time to get to work."

She pulled both her gloves off, tossing them to the side as she leapt out of her vantage point, a piece of rubble from what she can only assume used to be someone's apartment building. Off the corner of her eye, she noticed another hero -one she's not really familiar with, suddenly jump skywards. Using this other hero as a distraction, she rushed past the other heroes, avoiding gunfire by exploiting the distraction and quickly found herself face to face with one of the robots. It was huge, menacing. Heavily armored from head to tread, carrying an imposing aura about it. No wonder the other heroes hid behind cover, it looked to be impervious to most attacks.

Still, robots are mechanical by nature, and their movements are easily predictable. Yukio caught the attention of the robot standing directly in front of her, and before it could unleash a hail of gunfire, she slipped behind the automaton, vaulting across its tank-like lower half, while at the same time completely immobilizing it, her powers putting essentially the robot's normal weight on top of the heroine's own weight over the threads.

"And that's one." She calmly said moments before landing. As she predicted, the robot quickly pivoted its torso with a torque and velocity unmatched by humans, a strength easily exploitable by Yukio. Exploiting the machine's large stature, she positioned her right palm to strike its elbow joint as it turned around to face her. Its full weight, combined with the full force of its movement, easily over a hundred kilonewtons of force, all concentrated onto a single point no wider than a young woman's palm.

*CRACK*
*BANG*

Needless to say, it had catastrophic results on the robot. A loud, mechanical crack echoed through the air, followed by a loud explosion of components and parts. When the other heroes looked towards the source of the sound, they saw its firing arm had been destroyed. Utterly. Severed at the elbow joint with cables and the underlying structure beneath it clearly visible, mechanical and electrical sparks firing off from what used to be its elbow. Not only that, the dampeners and motors positioned at the robots torso, the one that allowed it to turn 180 degrees on the spot, was destroyed beyond function, seeing as it was suddenly and completely halted by a force greater than the one it produced. Smoke emanated from the barely functioning robot as Yukio recomposed herself.

Seems like more heroes are approaching. In her mind, she already knew what to do, all she could hope for now is for the other heroes to not get distracted by the ground troops and lose sight of the 'bird' flying away.

Linda didn't hear the announcement over the music blaring through her headphones. She had been leaping from building to building, using multiple layers of glass as a sort of platform when she couldn't reach the next rooftop on her own, when her phone began vibrating in her pocket.

She stopped, moved the headphones around her neck, and pulled it out. She read the message with a frown. Relatively small scale. They probably wouldn't bother sending in the "big guns" as it were so this would be a good chance for C-Ranks like her to prove her worth.

Or so she thought.

The first thing she noticed when she reached the scene, using the glass platform strategy to get there swiftly, was the opponents were robotic. Meaning metal.

Not to be discouraged Lin looked around to find something she could do to help out. And that's when she noticed the one that seemed to be flying away. From this vantage point she could tell there was someone being held by the thing. Most of the others, including, she noted with a roll of her eyes, someone she recognized as an A-Class, had their hands full with the robots on the ground.

Well, except the one who decided to toss a car at the hostage-having machine.

Linda cracked her knuckles and leapt from her platform.

Bounding from one platform to another, shattering and reforming them in front of her as she went, the girl made good speed at an angle to cut off the flying device.

Once she was close enough to the drone-like machine she made one final leap and landed atop of it. "Hey, civilian, don't you worry about a thing. This hunk of junk isn't taking you anywhere."

For what she had planned Linda felt that the glass she stored away in her backpack might not be enough. Thankfully the buildings below had plenty of shattered glass for her to utilize. Making a mental note to fix up the windows after this was done she used her powers to bring as much of it as she could towards her.

This thing was made of metal, but it had a very obvious opening. She figured that if she shoved enough glass into the laser hole then surely it would mess with something.

And so that's exactly what she did. Breaking apart the larger shards of glass she gathered up Linda maneuvered them around to the front of the robot and pushed them into the open hole that was its cannon.

Jack sat there, in his living room. He had been sitting there for quite a while now, about an hour. The TV was on, although it was at a relatively low volume. Today had been a very slow day - Jack hated slow days. How was he suppose to do any heroing if there was no crime to stop?

“THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM THE HERO ASSOCIATION. MULTIPLE WOLF LEVEL THREATS DETECTED IN CENTRAL L-CITY. REPORTS OF ROBOTIC BEINGS BREAKING INTO APARTMENTS, ENDANGERING CITIZENS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT. MULTIPLE C-CLASS HEROES DEPLOYED UNABLE TO CONTAIN THREAT. CURRENT THREAT LEVEL: TIGER."

Jack grinned as his phone played the message. "Finally!" He said, turning off the television and standing up. He was a bit away from L-City, but that was fine; he preferred to get fashionably late anyways. Plus it'd let the other heroes get some time to shine before he completely eclipsed them. Without wasting a second, he tossed on his coat and put on his hat, before sprinting out the door.

x393wz.jpg

When Jack got there it was pure chaos. Towering robots were terrorizing the streets, while what looked like the leader of the bunch was flying away. Just as he had expected, there were already plenty of heroes at the scene. "I think it's about time we wrap up this little preshow, eh?" Jack shouted, flinging his arm across the air. "I, The Raging Storm, have arrived!" As he shouted that, the area around him started to crackle with electricity. With his other arm, he pointed a finger gun at one of the robots, before an arc of lightning shot out of his aura, hitting directly at the robot's head. "Bullseye!" He laughed, walking forward.

His attention was drawn to the flying robot that was getting away, causing the boy to grimace. He considered firing a lightning bolt at the bird, but that would be a bad idea - not only did it have a hostage, but from his distance aiming it accurately would be a tad difficult. Plus, there was another hero nearby it, putting them at risk too. "I need to get closer..." Jack said, before sprinting towards the flying robot. One of the ground troops tried to stop him, but was swiftly send flying backwards by a discharge of electricity, Jack not slowing dowm. "Cmon...!" He said to himself, running as fast as his legs could carry him.

The robotic soldiers little time to react before a hero dashed into and out of their vision, faster than what most humans could detect.

“HOSTILE DETECTED. INITIATING DEFEN-”

“Kneeteor!”

Muay Tie descended upon a robot before it could attempt to defend itself with blinding speed with earth-shattering effect. A large dust cloud was thrown up around the impact site, the sounds of breaking concrete accentuated by the sounds of twisting metal. The other three robots were thrown a few feet away from the impact site, only barely landing upright, attempting to beat a hasty retreat while laying down a hail of gunfire upon the impact site. When the dust cleared, Daigo emerged unscathed on top of a pile of amorphous scrap.

Cyberman, at the first sign of safety, beat a hasty retreat while Panzerfaust lined up a shot at one of the robots. The weapon hit its mark, the projectile directly striking a robot’s head before exploding. To his dismay, when the smoke cleared, the only effect was leaving a dent in the robot’s armor as the robot turned and aimed its weapon at him. Upon seeing this, he too beat a hasty retreat.

The robots’ retreat was interrupted as a flaming humanoid flew directly into their formation, engulfing them in flame, followed closely by Pridwen descending upon the squad with lightning speed as well as a stray motorcycle. The two of the robots spread out, firing wildly into the fireball, only to have their right arms cut off by Pridwen before it returned to its owner. Left without weapons, the robots resorted to ramming into their assailants, with one attempting to crush Raincoat Inferno underneath the bottom edge of its shield while the other began demolishing the building Aegis was standing on.

The last retreating robot left its companions to their fate as it continued its escape, only to be stopped dead in its tracks by another hero. Sun and Steel’s energy redirection cause it to jerk wildly as its forward momentum was suddenly directed back at itself.

“HOSTILE DETECTED. DEPLOYING CQC.”

The robot’s bayonet made a dramatic sound as it was unsheathed from under its right arm. The robot turned violently to strike at the unmoving Yukio, only to be suddenly torn apart by its own torque when Yukio transferred the force into its body. In dramatic fashion, the entire right side of the robot was crushed, causing the robot to collapse and implode, releasing acrid smoke from its destroyed electronics.

---

In the air, the octacopter turned its powerful scanners towards the ground, identifying the hero response that utterly destroyed the robots sent as a diversion as well as a flaming car hurtling towards it. The octacopter aimed its laser cannon and release a quick burst towards the makeshift projectile, destroying it and sending the engine block hurtling through the roof of an apartment building.

“ESCALATING THREAT LEVEL. SENDING ALL AVAILABLE GROUND FORCES”

Sending a silent alarm to the remaining ground troops, the octacopter doubled its speed towards the shore. However, a rapidly approaching heroine, hopping upon glass platforms, required attention before the machine could make good its escape.

The hostage attempted to respond to the heroine, only for his voice to be drowned out by the octacopter's rotors and the sound of machine gun fire filling the air full of leaden death. Despite its advanced targeting system, the octacopter was unable to land a shot on the nimble heroine, who dipped and dived upon her crystalline platforms. However, the machine guns were only a distraction. The octacopter, with its main weapon fully recharged, aimed it at Shatter, with a bright green dot on her chest being the only indication of her impending doom.

“FIRING…”

The cannon started emitting its ominous blue glow right as Linda threw a cloud of glass directly at it. As the cannon fired, the chunks of glass managed to catch the beam, causing it to refract wildly, strafing the city with the destructive laser, causing various buildings to explode from its raw power. At the same time, the shards of glass absorbed the energy of the weapon, causing them to explode in a overwhelming blue nova of light, backfiring upon the robot.

“ROTORS DAMAGED. DISTRESS BEACON ACTIVATED. INITIATING EMERGENCY LANDING,” droned the octacopter as it begun a steep drop, with six of its rotors spewing forth a trail of sickly blue smoke. The hostage, who had miraculously been on the other side of the robot as the laser fired, let out another set of screams with renewed vigor, now fearing the rapidly approaching sea below.

----

Back on the ground, Raging Storm had finally arrived on the scene, just outside of the area the other heroes had dispatched the other ground based robots.

“Aaah! It’s Raging Storm! Get those robots!” cheered a nearby citizen from behind a door.

Other nearby people in hiding emerged to see the hero as he scanned the area for threats after dramatically announcing his presence. A column of seven robots were rushing towards to reinforce their ailing comrades until Jack managed to strike one of them in the head, completely deactivating it. The robots immediately stopped in place, turned towards Jack and fired upon him, causing all of the bystanders to scream and run back behind cover.

“INITIATING DEFENSIVE PROTOCOL.”

The robots stopped their suppressing fire and formed a tight square formation. Their shields linked together, forming a mighty wall of metal, waiting for the heroes to approach on their position.

Then, a rhythmic rumbling sound could be felt throughout the city center. From behind the formation of robotic foot soldiers, a mechanical abomination almost thirty feet long and ten feet tall walked upon its twenty towering legs, skittering past the buildings with unnatural grace and speed. The robot sported several turrets upon its back, all aimed in the direction of the hero group.

Then, the mechanical centipede began to speak, not in the droning, metallic voice of the foot soldiers, but in a man’s voice.

“Foolish heroes! Your efforts to stop my perfect stratagem is in vain! As you have been busy capturing pawns, I have already taken your king! You have already lost, now it is just a matter of time before L-City is mine! Now die!”

After the message was finished, the centipede fired all of its cannons upon the heroes, covering the whole area with fire.

Daigo laughed triumphantly as a simple knee bashing was enough to dispatch of the robot.  This was a task poorly fitted to test his skills, but it would still boost his ratings by a slim margin.  Whatever it took to become S-Class.  Whatever it took to become like Bang!  However, like clockwork, more heroes came to test their might against the machines.  They were all successful enough, but there were a couple he had kept his eye on in the bunch.

Raging Storm.  His lightning was fast.  Daigo always wanted to test whose attacks were faster.

Raincoat Inferno.  The thing that covered her body seemed to be able to do anything she wanted it to.  The possibilities teaching her were endless.

Sun and Steel.  Her power scared him...would he be able to overcome it with sheer will?  There had to be a weakness.  She'd rise through the ranks quickly.

Aegis.  He's trying at least.

As a Class A hero, he had to keep track of all the new up an comers who were on their way to the top!  And these four were the most prevalent of the B Class.  However, they still had a long way to go if they were to ever get into his league...they would have to sign up for classes if they wanted to make it to Class A!  He nodded to himself in thought, as he descended towards the ground.  He landed with a puff of dust, lighter than the wind.  However, as soon as he looked up, the robot carcasses that had been scattered about now had merged into a Centurion-like formation, whilst another large centipedal machine burst onto the scene.

“Foolish heroes! Your efforts to stop my perfect stratagem is in vain! As you have been busy capturing pawns, I have already taken your king! You have already lost, now it is just a matter of time before L-City is mine! Now die!”

"The king?  Who are they talking about?"  Daigo thought aloud.  The thought would be interrupted, as a wave of fire soon washed the street below him.  Without so much as another thought, Daigo leaped into the air, above the waves of fire.  "Oh shoot...I didn't see if anyone else could dodge the attack.  Hope they all make it."  However, now he was out of the fire, he was on a collision course with the mechanical centipede's head.  "You may have other plans, but I can't let you hurt some soon-to-be pupils of mine, now can I?"  Daigo stuck out his elbow, as he flew up to meet the centipede's face, hoping to crash one of the hardest parts of his body straight through the machine.

“Foolish heroes! Your efforts to stop my perfect stratagem is in vain! As you have been busy capturing pawns, I have already taken your king! You have already lost, now it is just a matter of time before L-City is mine! Now die!”

Aegis listened to this centipedal machine speak, as he glanced down over towards the robotic foot soldiers. From what he could tell at this moment, they looked like they were pulling a Roman Legion style of combat: the Testudo formation. It made sense in a way, though he was more interested in what his goggles were presenting him at the moment.

Just enough time to analyze, awesome. So what are we workin' with here? Aegis thought, being presented the information and analytics of the robots. Hmm, self designated the PAWNs. They have armor made of titanium alloy...standard procedure there. Oh what's this? Browning M2 machine guns as the primary weapon? And also powered by some large batteries stored in...their centers? I'd question the purpose for putting the power source in an obvious spot, but to each creator their own. That was the general information that Aegis cared about, but before he started to act on this situation, he noticed something else. Oh hey. Looks like I got myself the person in control of these little toys...the "Grandmaster King"...who is several miles off shore. Fantastic.

Aegis nodded at this, exhaling slowly as he decided against lamenting on the fact that an EMP would've been great about this time, but still that would also keep his own equipment from working properly. Now if he could possibly find a frequency where it wouldn't target his own st-

Focus, Alex...don't start letting your mind wander too much now. he sighed, shaking his head. Unfortunately, Aegis now had a problem, one he really didn't notice until now. sheet...those shields they're using are going to be a problem. I can't just use Pridwen to knock them back...nor can I just outright take them out by the ankles. So that's out of the question.

What did this call for now? ...unfortunately for him, this required him to get some assistance. And right now...he was also trying to avoid the fire as well as make sure most of the civilians that were still in the area, were actually evacuating now. Right now, there really wasn't much he could do.

Plenty of other heroes were arriving on the scene too now! Through their combined efforts, they seemed to be giving these robots a good thrashing, and the one in front of Nanami even found itself unarmed thanks to that one smart guy whose name escaped her at the moment. However, it still had its shield, and was making to try and crush Nanami with it. With the strength the suit provided her, she was able to at least hold it back some, but she couldn't imagine this would last forever. Nanami stopped pressing against the shield, and in that moment, leapt to the side with all the power her legs could provide on such short notice, just barely avoiding getting caught between the shield and the pavement again.

From there, it was just a matter of hurrying up along its body and punching it in the face enough times before it finally stopped moving. Easy.

Not long after Nanami had disposed of that robot, however, even more showed up, holding their shields up defensively as an even bigger robot showed itself, and spoke in an actual human voice.

“Foolish heroes! Your efforts to stop my perfect stratagem is in vain! As you have been busy capturing pawns, I have already taken your king! You have already lost, now it is just a matter of time before L-City is mine! Now die!”

And then, the entire area was subjected to a barrage of bullets, prompting Nanami to get behind the robot she'd just disabled. She had to get up in that robot's face and destroy those turrets... but if the guy inside it spotted her, she'd be targeted. Sure, she wase pretty sturdy thanks to the symbiote, but she wasn't invincible. Bullets would still hurt, and she wasn't sure how well she'd be able to handle focused fire on her if he decided to do that. Nanami reached for the top set of buttons on her raincoat, and undid them, working her way down its length to reveal the Krohka suit in full.

What are you doing!?

"Camouflage." Not long after she said the word, Nanami seemed to go entirely invisible, with the raincoat on the ground being the only sign she'd been there at all. She knew exactly who she was looking for, and as soon as she saw a lapse in the hail of bullets between her and her destination, Nanami moved out, hurrying along before ducking behind a new piece of cover and revealing herself. She needed some sort of distraction to get over there, and her first thought was the shield guy... Aegis! That was what people called him!

The mask of the Krohka suit peeled back, revealing Nanami's face beneath, as she looked at the other hero and the suit's camouflage let off, revealing her in full. "Hey, I've got an idea. But it um... well, it's kinda dangerous. How tough is that shield of yours exactly? If that big robot was firing mostly at you, would it be able to take that?"

Yukio stood on her guard after taking down the robot, her posture stuck in one of the opening stances of Bajiquan, one of the martial arts she practiced in her spare time. Around her she noticed more and more heroes arriving on the scene, gradually getting the situation with the ground robots under the control. Using this lapse in intensity as time to think and parse everything that was happening around her, she noticed the flying humanoid that carried a hostage away was taken down by a projectile shot, though from who it was fired, she couldn't figure out yet.

The heroes assembled before her were mostly B-Class, with one A-Class and one she did not recognize. Though not intimate with any of their names or powers, she at least had seen their mugs while scanning the hero rankings. Looking at the situation, she surmised that her two main courses of action would be to either subdue the falling robot and attempt to gather info from it, or to catch the hostage and rescue him off-shore. Neither option seemed plausible at the moment, at least for her own to handle.

Before she could decide on her next course of action though, an unexpected intruder destroyed her concentration.

“Foolish heroes! Your efforts to stop my perfect stratagem is in vain! As you have been busy capturing pawns, I have already taken your king! You have already lost, now it is just a matter of time before L-City is mine! Now die!”

The giant insectile behemoth suddenly burst upon the scene and laid waste to the surrounding area with a barrage of cannon fire, prompting Yukio to quickly take cover behind the lifeless hunk of metal that was the robot she took down earlier.

"So this is the man behind the scenes. That suit of armor is annoying, but not invincible. Legs seem weak."

She closed her eyes and tried to formulate a plan, taking into account what she had seen from the other heroes. Not that she'd ever call on them for help, but at the very least, create an opening where they could act. From here on, her priority should be to "Neutralize the leader." A contingency plan was set in motion for the hostage and even the robot, with help from her allies in the police force, but for now her main target is the giant centipede of a robot laying waste to the city.

The heroine's eyes open once again as she used a brief pause in the robot's firing to get out of cover, extending her right arm in front of her to shield herself against the shells, which, conveniently happened to be larger than her body. For the most part. As if on cue, a shell flew right into Yukio's palms, which exploded in a fan of fires outward, as if being repelled from Yukio's body. Still, she did not walk away completely unharmed. Though her palm itself was fine, her forearm was burnt, and the sleeves of her shirt was in tattered. Looks like her power has its limits after all.

Still, it's not as if she went out without any plans. She noticed early on that the only A-Class hero, Muay Tie, was not cowering at ground level like the other heroes. Since she saw him leap into the air earlier to take the first move against one of the ground soldiers, she gambled that he took a similar line of action, a gamble that paid off.

Using the explosion as cover to deflect attention from herself, Yukio glanced at the sky, noticing the red-haired hero was in position to perform an elbow drop from the heavens, she took it as her cue to run headfirst towards the centipede, the one she identified as the ringleader of the circus. With a pace that matched Muay Tie, she positioned herself beneath the giant robot's head, palms extended upward.

With the hero's elbow hopefully bringing the centipede's head crashing down, she would be able to direct its entire mass onto a single point on its chin, similar to bringing a giant falling down onto a nail.

"Crush him, Muay Tie!" She shouted out in uncharacteristic fashion, seems like the heat of battle got to her a bit.

It worked! It actually wor...oshit.

Lin realized almost too late that the result of her efforts, the laser backfiring, would cause an explosion right near where she was standing. She kicked off the robot's frame and dove away from the thing as the blast rocked the air around it. Her back hit several panes of glass which she used to launch herself back towards the flying, or now she supposed falling, device.

There was still someone being held by the machine. Whose position was made worse now that it was falling towards the ground. She had to get to him before they hit the ground.

What would she do when she reached him?
Well, suppose she'd have to figure that one out.

Grabbing onto the arm of the robot she looked the hostage over. He was screaming so clearly he was still conscious. Which meant that hopefully he was listening. "Okay, I'm about to do something to get you out of there. When I do I'm gonna try and grab onto you and get you away from here."

Now to figure out exactly what it was she was going to do.

Looking over the appendage, taking it all in, a solution came to mind. With a smirk she began to form several shards of glass around her and, one by one, began to push them into one of the connectors that allowed the arm to move around. One after another, biting her lip as she focused on reforming them as the arm crushed each shard, she put more and more glass into the narrow space until it was enough to pry the thing off the robot.

At which point she'd reach out for the hostage and create a ramp of glass for them both to slide down and away from the falling robot.

"Hey, I've got an idea. But it um... well, it's kinda dangerous. How tough is that shield of yours exactly? If that big robot was firing mostly at you, would it be able to take that?"

Aegis glanced over, seeing some girl in an orange suit disengage some sort of cloaking camouflage and started talking to him. Something about the girl seemed familiar...at least power wise. He did remember some things in the news regarding a hero in an orange suit...just couldn't remember what the specifics they spoke about.

Nevertheless, the young boy hid in cover across from the girl, before looking directly at her. Hopefully the goggles can give me some sort of read out on this girl... he thought, before finally speaking. "I don't what you have in mind, but Pridwen here...let's say, if a truck-esque force is barrelling down towards it, it'll break." Aegis wasn't too proud of this fact. He hoped sooner or later he would actually develop this shield a bit further and make it so it took more to break it. Unfortunately, at the present time, he couldn't think of anyway to do this.

"So anything dealing with that big guy there will render Pridwen useless..." Aegis said, before stopping, beginning to formulate and monologue an idea before the young girl. "Then again...it by itself would be useless. But...utilizing Pridwen to a degree to find a way to get between the joints of the bot and unleashing the laser from it from between the joints might actually prove to be fruitful. Only downside I could see, other than possibly being struck down by the bot would be getting up to that level in the first place."

Jack let out a hearty laugh as he heard the crowd cheer his name, although it wouldn't last long as he saw the robots start to aim at him. Thinking quickly, he lunged towards the nearest abandoned car for cover as the sounds of gunfire filled the air. He frowned as he stayed crouched down, thinking about what to do. He couldn't really fire back with his lighting like this, unless he tried to do it blind. However, if he did this he risked hitting something else, maybe even a civilian. Luckily, the hail of bullets ended.

“INITIATING DEFENSIVE PROTOCOL.”

Jack peaked over the cover to see the robots form a defensive position. As The Raging Storm took a look, he saw something else emerge from the group of robots.

“Foolish heroes! Your efforts to stop my perfect stratagem is in vain! As you have been busy capturing pawns, I have already taken your king! You have already lost, now it is just a matter of time before L-City is mine! Now die!”

"And the big bad makes his appearance." Jack muttered, before quickly going back into cover as bullets once again filled the air. He couldn't just sit here, however; he was the closest to the flying robot outside of that Shatter chick, who seemed to be doing some rather dangerous stuff. He turned to take a quick glance at the other heroes, before seeing Muay Tie fly through the air. He had a bit of respect for the guy, seeing as he was one tier above him, but he wasn't about to let him over shadow Jack, The Raging Storm! The other started to act, the spotlight on them.

It was time to take it back.

Jack stood up from where he was hiding, both hands now crackling madly with electricity. Jack clasps his hands together, eyes locked onto the shield that was being formed. It seemed to be made of mostly metal; Jack could only hope that it somehow wasn't conductive. At the very least, he would draw attention back towards him for the others. "You think that little tin foil wrapping will stop me!?" Jack shouted, as he threw both of his hands forward towards the robots. As he did, a surge of lighting shot out of his palms, multiple cyan bolts flying directly into the wall of shields. Sweat started dripping from his forehead as he grit his teeth.

Ehhhh? Well, that was Nanami's plan out the window. Hopefully he didn't notice the look fo disappointment on the girl's face, as he went on to explain how the shield could be useful if they were to utilize the laser it was equipped with. And how the problem was getting up there in the first place.

"Getting there is exactly what I had in mind. See, what I was thinking was if you could distract them with that thing, then--"

"You think that little tin foil wrapping will stop me!?"

Nanami flinched, and peeked out from her cover to see another hero unleashing his electric fury on the line of robots. That was very stupid... but also exactly what she needed. As the hood of the Krohka suit reached up to cover her head again, she shrugged "Just do what you can." And then, before the boy's eyes, she seemed to disappear, as she ran out from behind her cover, making a beeline toward the wall of robots. If she could just climb up these guys then get on top of the big one...

As the smoke cleared from the barrage, the heroes sprung into action.

Daigo sprung through the air, directly towards the centipede machine, deftly dodging past a hail of gunfire from his target below before falling into a powerful elbow drop. Thinking quickly, Yukio dashed underneath the head of the robot, ready to redirect the force of Daigo’s strike back into the robot. The combined efforts of the two heroes had devastating effect. The centipede’s head caved in with a sickening crunch before the bottom surface was thrown into the sky by the redirected force.

The robot recoiled from the massive hit and skittered backwards, sparks flying out of the gaping hole where its head used to be. It stopped at the base of an apartment building, where it them stabbed its legs into the concrete side of the structure and began to climb up it. The robot then spoke again in the familiar tinny timbre of cheap loudspeakers before firing another salvo of incendiary shells.

“You fools! You would think that I, King Grandmaster, master of robotics and strategy, would be as foolish as to put the controls in the head of my robots?! A brilliant mind such as mine is not held back by the laws of nature!”

---

Jack fired a surge of lightning, causing the debris around him to shiver in response to his overflowing energy. The bolts hit their mark directly into the centre of the robotic formation with a blinding flash of light and a thunderous roar that echoed through the city streets. The unlucky robot that was struck the most times exploded into blue fire, sending the formation into disarray and throwing other robots away. The overflowing electricity cause many of the robots to appear lifeless.

However, the impact was less than what Jack was expecting, as the remaining robots sprung back to life and formed a new shield wall in front of the smoking crater where their comrade once stood.

“TARGET ACQUIRED.”

The wall of shields charged towards Jack with surprising speed in an attempt to overrun his position, firing wildly at him, pitting the asphalt around him with hundreds of holes.

---

The man, still within the clutches of the falling robot, saw that his savior had survived the explosion and stopped screaming a little to hear what she was saying

"Okay, I'm about to do something to get you out of there. When I do I'm gonna try and grab onto you and get you away from here."

The man nodded, then closed his eyes and braced for whatever the heroine had in mind. As Lin struck at the connecting joint that held the arm to the robot, the glass shard clashed and shattered against the metal armor and the wiring within. She had to reform her makeshift tool multiple times before the arm separated with a shower of sparks. Feeling the grip of the robotic arm loosen, the man peeked out from his closed eyes, only to begin another round of screaming as he pointed out the rapidly approaching sea below.

With only seconds to spare, Lin quickly summoned her glass ramp, catching her and the terrified hostage, sliding and tumbling along its smooth surface before being launched sideways into the sea. Upon landing, the octocopter hit the sea several feet away with a great splash, creating a great wave that pushed the two of them closer towards shore.

Okay. This time it actually DID work. Sure, it was messy, sure, she head a headache, sure, they were currently in the water floundering about. But it worked! She would laugh but then the water would get in her mouth and she'd rather not start to drown now that she had rescued the...hostage? Why was the robot dragging this guy away anyway?

Before that she still needed to get to shore. Risking swallowing seawater she opened up her mouth to say, "Hey, let's get outta here. Can you swim?" If he said no the girl would have him hold onto her before heading to shore. Otherwise she'd have him go first so that she could keep an eye on her as she made her way to dry land.

Once there she laughed as she had wanted to before. "Well that was exciting, wasn't it?" She turned to the man. "So...what's your name anyway? You majorly unlucky or did you piss off some mad scientist or something?" She gestured back towards where the fight was going on. "I gotta know if I should get back there or if you're gonna just be snagged again the moment I leave."

"Just do what you can."

"That's...what I've been doing..." Aegis said, seeing the girl disappear yet again.

It was moments like this that Aegis lamented the folly that was his predicament: his lack of a physical power and having nothing but a strong intellect. He did hope one day it would end up producing something like telepathy or psychokinesis or the like, but alas...it wasn't meant to be. Therefore, he always had the chip on his shoulder that he had to work extra hard in regards to being a strong hero in the eyes of the people. He did good so far...but for stuff like this...

This sucks... he thought, remaining hidden for a bit longer. He needed to come up with a plan...and right now all he had to see was the inviso-girl and the blue electric gu-... Wait a second....that may be it!!

Before he could do anything, he watched the robots already start converging towards the electric hero. It was probably now or never. Aegis took a deep breath and rushed up in the hero's direction, though keeping a good distance away from the electricity coming from his palms. Lifting Pridwen, he aimed it at the group of robots and activated a button. "UNI-BURST!!" he shouted, as a green laser blast emitted from the shield's green gem in the center and struck at the robots. Hopefully it would put them off kilter and actually do some damage.

Least he hoped anyway.

“You fools! You would think that I, King Grandmaster, master of robotics and strategy, would be as foolish as to put the controls in the head of my robots?! A brilliant mind such as mine is not held back by the laws of nature!”

He sure does like hearing himself talk.

"He does," Nanami agreed, rushing toward the line of robots under guise of camouflage. With a mighty jump, Nanami went over the robots, aiming to land on the largest one, piloted by this "King Grandmaster" guy. Talk about a weird name!

Let's shut him up!

The jump, however, was met with bullets from the pawns. They saw her!? They must have had something else to detect with besides plain old cameras. The bullets stung a bit, but Nanami wasn't feeling any the worse for wear. It was then that - coming out of the camouflage - Nanami saw a green laser attack hit some of the front robots. This was a moment to be seized! Placing her hands behind her, Nanami said "Krohka, explosions! Big ones!"

My pleasure! Propelled by sizable blasts from her palms, Nanami launched herself back into the robots that were hit by the laser. She also heard someone shouting. Was it the shield guy? Nice. As Nanami rocketed into the backs of the robots struck by the green laser, she put her legs out in front of her, kicking into the backs of the robots. The result? Bursting through the back of a robot hard enough to shoot through it, and land in front of it. She stumbled a bit upon hitting the ground, but managed to stick the landing.

"Nice shot!" she called out.

  • 2 weeks later...

TwUKPnq.jpg?1

When Daigo's attack had landed, someone below the centipedal robot had been able to catch the impact with their bare hands, and do twice the damage.  He looked on as the robot recoiled with major damage, his mind running with possibilities.  When he landed, he rushed to the girl who had managed to pull of such a feat.

"Have you ever considered martial arts?!"  He exclaimed, trying not to test his abilities against the girl as they stood opposite each other.

“You fools! You would think that I, King Grandmaster, master of robotics and strategy, would be as foolish as to put the controls in the head of my robots?! A brilliant mind such as mine is not held back by the laws of nature!”

"King Grandmaster, huh?  Seems a bit redundant."  Daigo laughed, as he shrugged.  "Geez...do these guys never learn?  A-Rank climbing, and S-Rank hopeful, MUAY TIE, will be the one to dash your plans, and get some publicity in the process!"  The large shells that shot from the centipede were well on their way now.  Daigo turned to the lady from before and nodded.  "You can handle one of those things, right?"  Before jumping off to land on one shell and run alongside the smooth edge of it, before taking a hold of then end, and launching it at another shell.  Using the force of his legs shooting out together at the same time, he dodged the explosion, while travelling through the air in a way that he was able to come in contact with many more shells, and kick them, redirecting them right back at the Robot.  "A King Grandmaster doesn't seem so smart to give me ammunition!"

Jack let out a hearty laugh as the blue explosion filled the air with its victorious sound, although he did not have much time to gloat, much to his dismay. Almost as quickly as he had dismantled the wall, another layer of robots appeared. However, having taken center stage like he had, he was sure that this left the other heros to be able to sneak away - a job well done by Jack, as to be expected!

As the wall was forming, Jack let out more electricity crackle around him. "Yes, bring me more!" He brought both of his arms back, glancing over at the hero that was coming over to his way. He seemed intent on doing something - good, maybe with him he could blast this wall one and for all. "Feed the Raging Storm!" Jack shouted as the wall of robots charged at him at surprising speeds. He flung both of his arms forward, eyeing where the green laser was going to hit. A thunderous boom erupted from around him as a stream of pure electricity blasted out of both his palms, wildly hitting roughly at the same place Aegis' beam had. He felt a bullet or two graze his cheek, but the pain from that was nothing compared to the adrenaline he was feeling right now.

The resulting force of the two's combination attack sent out a shockwave that blew its head clean off, exposing the internal robotics and mechanics as sparks flew off where its head used to be. Yukio returned to a battle-ready stance as she watched the hulking machine skitter up a building, its legs firmly planted on the apartment walls while its long, serpentine body coiled around the building. Its movements did not seem to slow at all, despite losing a large part of its internal components, nor did it seem to be off-balance even with a lot of its mass missing, a fact Yukio did not miss.

She glanced to the side of her aid, the A-Rank hero Muay Tie, who landed right next to her as the dust settled.

"Have you ever considered martial arts?!"

He shouted at her. Yukio, not one to converse on the battlefield, looked at him with a look of confusion, as she had been using martial arts the entire fight. "I've been using bajiquan this entire fight- Ah... Nevermind." Before she could finish her sentence, she noticed he had already shifted his attention to the robot, shouting some hot-headed declarations before leaping into action as a second volley of shells were launched at them. Right before the cannonballs would reach them, the A-Rank hero called out to her once more.

"You can handle one of those things, right?"

Only for him to use some incredible physical prowess to scale the shells and redirect them towards the robot. Seeing this, Yukio simply shrugged, and extended her right palm outwards to meet one of the shells flying toward her.

"This much is trivial for me." She replied in her usual calm manner. The projectile came into contact with her palm, and almost immediately exploded upon impact, as if it had hit a solid surface, a jet of flames and material expanding outward, away from the girl. As the explosion settled, it was clear that the repeated explosions was not something Yukio could handle indefinitely, her hand was burnt, the cuffs of her expensive-looking coat reduced to a tattered mess as smoldering tinder escaped it. "I need to figure out a way to redirect the heat...." She silently lamented, looking at her wounded palm, before once more focusing on the enemy in front of her. "....And to take care of that thing." It seems her thoughts escaped her mouth as she stared down the behemoth robot.

Analyzing all possible scenarios as it unfolded before her, Yukio froze in place, closing her eyes amidst the chaotic battlefield. The robot did not stumble at all despite being hit. The 'king' was already taken. The 'grandmaster' is not bound by common sense. The 'puppetmaster' is still haughty and confident, despite the slew of heroes taking down his forces. All these factors, what do they lead to?

The centipede is merely a "Distraction."

The true position of the ringleader is "Not here."

The objective is to "Reclaim the king."

Yukio opened her eyes after a brief half a minute, and quickly rushed along with Muay Tie, before mustering up her voice to shout the conclusion she came to towards everyone present.

"We're wasting our time here! The real target is that hostage!"

Upon arriving at the apartment's base, she got ready and positioned herself below one of the centipede's mechanical legs, noticing a crack in the wall. She decided to use the shells Muay Tie was launching at the robot, which would cause a tremor and a surge of kinetic energy transferred to the robot, and inevitably, to the walls. Her plan was to use her powers to hit the wall in time with the shells exploding, causing the already fractured, damaged wall to be hit with two clashing forces of equal strength in opposite directions, causing a resonance which she hopes would bring the building crashing down, taking the big hunk of metal with it.

The man, hostage no more, regained his bearings and his breath as he resurfaced from the sea. Taking Lin’s lead, he followed his savior to the safety of the shore. Upon reaching the shore, he panted heavily as he rolled onto his back, wondering what his life had come to.

"So...what's your name anyway? You majorly unlucky or did you piss off some mad scientist or something?"

He turned to the heroine, righted himself and answered:

“My name is Matsuoka Kuro. I have no idea why I would be kidnapped by a giant flying robot, I just play chess for a living! I can’t imagine how that would warrant a kidnapping. Whatever the reason, thank you very much for getting me out of that! I think I will just lay here for a while…and catch my breath.”

---

Aegis’ sudden laser blast hit its mark, striking the side of one of the charging robots, leaving a scorched hole in its armor. Without stopping its charge, it turned with unnatural speed and fired upon Aegis and the rapidly approaching Nanami. With little time to react, the formation was thrown into disarray by her mighty kick, sending the leading robot flying several meters ahead, falling flat on its back.

The vicious assault scattered the six remaining robots, with a pair of robots pursuing one of the heroes. The fallen robot righted itself, only to be immediately struck by another surge of electricity as a robot rushed past, closing the remaining distance with Jack, attempting to overrun the glowing blue hero. The other four robots pursuing Aegis and Nanami produced their hidden bayonets and began slashing and firing wildly at the two heroes with desperate fury.

---

As Daigo reflected shell after shell back towards its source and Yukio smashing the concrete of the apartment building, the centipede robot slowly lost its grip as its own barrage was turned against it, with its long metal legs flailing wildly as they attempted to find another foothold.

“STOP! STOP THAT! STAND STILL SO I CAN KILL YOU!” shrieked Grandmaster King from the robot as its cannons continued to fire. Despite the fierce barrage, none of its shots managed to land a hit on the agile hero.

With a swift kick, Daigo returned one of the slugs directly into the barrel of the main cannon. An instant later, a series of massive explosions rocked the air and shattered nearby windows as the cannon backfired and ignited its own magazine, bathing the whole machine in a cloud of incendiary death. Out of the cloud fell the lifeless wreck of the mechanical centipede, hitting the ground with a resounding crash and a great cloud of dust.

"A'ight, Kuro, read you loud and clear." Lin smiled wide at the man even while inside considering his words. Why would this man be targeted then? Chess, Chess...what was it the villain had called himself? Grandmaster King? Grandmaster as in...Chess? Could this be a personal grudge, then?

The girl looked back towards the city. They were a fair ways away and the flying robot was down. Plus if they captured the King..."Guess it's time for Checkmate." Lin said, forming a platform of glass to get a running start before she began her glass jumping back to the scene of the fight. "Hey, keep out of trouble why don't you? See anything robotic bigger than a toaster you get outta the area." Before she left she finished with, "oh and, no need for thanks. I'm a Hero. It's what I do."

With that she took off back to the city. She'd have to keep her eye on that big robot and move in to catch the one behind this as soon as he popped up.
