Scrap Engineer

EARTH/LINK-2/Warrior/Link/Effect/1800 ATK/Bottom-Left, Bottom-Right

2 "Scrap" monsters

Once per turn, if a "Scrap" monster(s) you control would be destroyed (by battle or card effect): You can destroy 1 other "Scrap" monster you control or in your hand instead. If a non-Synchro "Scrap" monster(s) in your possession is destroyed by a card effect and sent to the GY: You can Special Summon one of those monsters in Defense Position. Its effects are negated, also, banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use this effect of “Scrap Engineer” once per turn.

I had originally made this for the https://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/374365-make-legacy-support/'>"Make Legacy Support" thread, but I ended up not finding it again in time to meet the prompt, so I might as well post it here.

Fun Fact: The "Scrap" monsters whose effects activate when destroyed by a "Scrap" card don't care where they're destroyed, just so long as they end up in the GY.  With that in mind, you could use this card's first effect to destroy something like a "Scrap Shark" in your hand, circumventing the need to Summon it to the field first to use its milling effect.  Second effect, of course, is more for setting up Synchro Summoning, although one could still use the SS'd "Scrap" as an Xyz Material, so I dunno if I should include a further restriction for that.

Anyways, critique and comment?

It might help not to use black text on a black background, just saying. That aside, nice card, I like it :)

Ah, my bad, I'm using one of the lighter themes and I copy-pasted this from Google Docs (which uses black text by default), so I didn't realize that people using darker themes wouldn't be able to see it.  It should be good now, though, so thanks for letting me know!

I mean it is okay... From my experience with playing Scraps, the biggest thing I noticed about the Deck is that it suffers from "Field Spell or Bust" Syndrome as the Deck tends to dead draw and miss out on a lot of plays without Scrap Factory. This doesn't really address that problem. If anything, you are more likely to find yourself only being able to go into this after a Scrap Factory play which I think one would rather go into 1 of the Scrap Dragons instead (as usually you net at least 3 Scrap Monsters from factory on a good day). Without Scrap Factory, one probably would be even less inclined to make this as Scrap Chimera is usually Scraps one trick pony into making anything provided you got a Scrap Tuner in the GY.

But, I'll give you a benefit of a doubt, you could perhaps be making more Scrap support that would help iron out the general kinks of the Deck.

Now... As for what it does within the archetype, destruction protection at the expense of destroying another Scrap you have on hand or on the field, yeah to its credit it does help trigger their effects, and second effect can extend possible plays, but... I feel like the protection could extend to maybe a little more than just getting destroyed... I mean come on now if your opponent could get rid of your Scraps without destroying them, do you think they would want to go along with destroying them in the 1st place? Maybe make it into a once per turn negation effect at the expense of destroying the Scraps instead, and maybe still keep the Summoning back lost resource effect as well.

I like its first effect, its all it needed to be; simple destruction effect trigger.

But the second effect, the more I look at it the more I dislike it, while the special summon is really nice the banish is not really something you want to do in the deck, it needs the graveyard for resource recursion which sadly isn't much to begin with by today's standards. It negates effects, which is fair enough as it would only mess with the Synchro Monsters, and it can't summon those (keeping in line with Scrap Twin and Atomic Scrap I see), the special summon must also be in defense position, nice anti-link meausure I guess tough really, the highest attack monster this can summon is a 2300 ATK monster with no destruction effect, and the other one, Scrap Shark, has 2100 ATK, sure you can boost that with Scrap Sheen and what not but is it really THAT frightning? (You're most likely going to use it as an Extra-Deck monster material but still).

But its a Link 2 and its materials aren't obnoxious, nor does it have a xenophobic "You can only summon "Scrap" monsters during the turn you use this effect" so even with those gripes I still like the card, it IS useful.
