Shunting is Switchyard searcher. It does a lot more than that, and in such a way it almost disguises its main purpose, but at least it's useful outside of it. Still, now with 9 copies of Switchyard, the Deck's consistency rises even higher.

Your Link 1 is too good. Easy sending from the field to the GY, an extremely useful search and mill. Link 1s have been bad so far in the current meta-game, or at least rather restricted in that area. Giving such a powerful and easy to use support, even to a Deck that isn't meta, should be a no go. Trains were even Tier 1, once upon a time.

The Link 2 is also a bit strong. 2000 attack is on the high end for a Link 2, and the blanket protection for any form of unorthodox removal, AND insta-revival for anything you need, such as an Xyz for an easy Rank-Up with that new Rank 11 or that Seven Sins monster Rank 12. Maybe if it wasn't so bland in the support, it would be easier to nerf, but for now I'd suggest going in a different direction altogether and play with how the rest of the cards work.

Thanks for the review. Here's a hopefully nerfed version of Steam Engine and I'm probably gonna scrap the Link 1.

Main Line Steam Engine

Link 2 EARTH

Link Arrows: Bottom Left, Bottom Right

Machine/Link/Effect

1800

2 EARTH Machine Monsters

Negate the effects of EARTH Machine monsters with an original Level of 10 while you control them. You can target either 1 Lvl 10 EARTH Machine-Type monster or 1 Lvl 4 EARTH Machine-Type monster with 1800 or more ATK monster in your GY; Special Summon it in Defense Position, but its effects are negated. You can only use this effect of “Main Line Steam Engine” once per turn.

Perhaps the hand dump on Shunting is a bit excessive; I think 1 or 2 would suffice. Also reaffirming I love what you've done with your Link 2, and especially how this small set is spanning out.

The hand dump for Shunting was meant to parallel the other downsides on the other Lvl 10 Trains and be something that can be negated. Changed it to discard 2 cards to further parallel Bullet Liner and to not be such a massive downside.

  • 2 weeks later...

Draconius has a bit too much ATK for a Level 4, although you could get away with 1900 ATK with that effect. Protection is rather good, and immediately makes this the best Level 4 the monsters have access to as a Switchyard target. Don't know how I feel about it, but it is good.
