(CaC Single Flip Support) What Lurks in the Shadows

Recommended Posts

Helps out in general flip monsters by getting them Special Summon face-down. This will additionally help out tribute summon focused strategies.

What Lurks in the Shadows: Quick-Play Spell Card

Special Summon 1 Level 6 or lower effect monster face-down from your Deck or GY that specifically has "Flip" in its text. During your Main Phase while this card is in the GY except the turn this card was sent to the GY, you can banish this card from your GY; add 1 "What Lurks in the Shadows" from your Deck or GY to your hand. You can only each effect of "What Lurks in the Shadows" once per turn.

I'm going to assume actual Flip monsters with the subtype instead of the ones that trigger when they are Flip Summoned or something.

As for how this card is going to function competitively, I don't know if Shaddolls (for lack of actually good Flip decks) need this (though I suppose retrieving ED materials wouldn't be too bad) and Krawlers are iffy. Only other Flip decks that are worth mentioning are Subterrors (albeit their good ones are Level 7+ and they got their own setup cards over this) and I guess Tarotrei/friends, but they're not doing much now. Tindangles might appreciate the added speed and all, but that isn't saying much for them.

Of course, if he did intend for it to trigger on stuff that can flip self up/down and isn't an inherent Flip monster, then it might be doing things, but still not doing any favors for them as a whole (mostly because all of the valid targets aren't exactly good by modern standards).

Regardless, Shaddolls would appreciate this to get a Shaddoll on play for a Fusion Summon. Other than that, Summoning directly from the Deck is potent, but in face-down Defense Position it is not as much. IMO, more than search power, Flips need a way to Flip themselves up in the same turn they are Set. To be fair, this searches for a copy of itself for the extra pluses, so it should balance things out. In short, I find it as a good card, but not what Flips needs to most. It just supports them in a different way. IDK if it could become problematic when/if the next best Flip Deck/archetype is released.

I see. That confirms the pool of cards it can grab is much bigger, even cards with conditions like "When this card is Normal/etc. or Flip Summoned" which normally one would prefer to Normal Summon, or anti-Flip monsters like Razor Lizard. Funnily enough, it can grab Spirit of Fall Wind too, which searches for Flips xD

My point still stands. Great support for getting assorted monsters on board for fodder purposes and/or ultimately in the GY, but doesn't addresses the need of most Flips of wanting to be flipped face-up.
