White Dragon Overlord: Protector of Blue

Dragon/LIGHT/Synchro/Effect/9 Stars

ATK 3500/DEF 2000

(1 tuner and one or more non-tuner Dragon Type monsters)

This card is not affected by monster effects unless that monster is a Dragon Type. If this card is in the GY, it is treated as a "Blue Eyes" Dragon. Once per turn, if a "Blue Eyes" or "Eyes of Blue" monster is targeted by a monster or card effect, you can send one "Blue Eyes" or "Eyes of Blue" card to the GY to negate and destroy the targeting card. If this card inflicts battle damage, add 1 "Blue Eyes" monster from your deck to your hand.

Problem: The card is good but destroying a card doesn't negate the effect. So if somebody hits my Blue-Eyes with Magic Cylinder, my attack is still negated and I still take 3000 damage. All I did was send Cylinder to the grave with no benefit.

For the negating effect you haven't specified where you're sending cards from. I'll assume you mean the hand, so if you would, here's a text update.

"While this card is in the GY, it is treated as a "Blue-Eyes" Monster. This card is unaffected by Monster Card effects, except Dragon Monsters. Once per turn, if a "Blue Eyes" or "Eyes of Blue" monster is targeted by a card effect: You can send one "Blue-Eyes" or "Eyes of Blue" Monster Card from your hand to the GY; negate that effect and destroy it. If this card inflicts battles damage to your opponent: Add 1 "Blue-Eyes" Monster from your deck to your hand."

Overall, I personally think this monster is unnecessary, and it's also doing a LOT. It also does what the deck shouldn't do and takes the spotlight away from BEWD being the beater of the deck. In the sense I'd also reduce it down to 3K.

Blue-Eyes has enough search so I'd drop the final effect. That leaves you with protection from monster effects, except Dragons, and a chance to negate a target. It's kinda like a more continuous Azure-eyes. I think there could be a little more difference between the two.

Aside from that, it's an alright card. It doesn't add anything the deck needs, especially as we have Ultimate Creature of Destruction, but it's nice to have a nod to the Eyes of Blue series.

I think the point was to add more consistancy to a pure BE/EoB deck. The Eyes of Blue monsters don't exactly help out with Shining Dragon though since none of them are dragons.

Most Blue-Eyes decks are pure, and theyre plenty consistent now we have Bingo Machine, and if you like, King of D to add Melody to add BEWD and Alternative.

What deck ever runs Shining Dragon? Even casually, it's so difficult to make Ultimate Dragon consistently because you need the materials available. This Synchro doesn't help either because you'll put one material in the GY, and unless you've made a Link, you now cannot Fusion Summon.

From a casual point this card does a lot, but it doesn't do anything new IMO

I see your point about summoning Shining Dragon since I've only summoned it about 3 times. I barely get a chance to summon Ultimate. But yeah, BEWD does have enough support to actually run single copies of everything in a 40 card deck. Not enough support to manage a 60 card deck (which I often run) but having 19 fillers isn't a bad option since most Blue-Eyes monsters are LIGHT aside from the 2. But yeah, you can build a very consistant deck for BEWD in general.

I'm not understanding where this fixation with LIGHT monsters is coming from, but yeah, you shouldn't run a 60 card BEWD deck, and Ultimate Dragon consumes too many resources, which is a shame b

ecause Neutron Blast is searchable now.

Overall this card as itself isn't anything game breaking. The search is too slow, and the protection means losing more resources in your hand, which the deck burbs through anyway. It's okay but doesn't solve the issue.

Actually, if you're only discarding cards like WSoL, then you can get possibly get a free BEWD. So use the protection effect a couple times to quickly get your stones to the grave and BEWD out on the field. Use any Eyes of Blue tuner with any dragon(s) other than Blue-Eyes. Looking at that logic, I guess this card does somewhat speed up the BEWD and make summoning BEUD or BESD a little more possible. Just depends on how you play your cards I guess. We still need a Link though since BEWD can't put down more than one Extra Monster without one.
