New Member of the Staff Team (December 2018)

With Sakura stepping down, the team discussed whether or not we would be adding another moderator in his stead. While it was not universally agreed that we required another member of the mod team, the conclusion at the end was to add another.

This is a member who has been active in Custom Cards for quite a while, shown leadership qualities, and tends to keep a good head about them. Sakura wanted this member to eventually become a moderator, and many members have expressed a desire for this member to become a moderator as well.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome @@Dova to the staff team. He will have a month trial as Junior Moderator, and, if he has been satisfactory to that point, he will be promoted to Moderator. Changes to the Custom Cards section(s), if any, will wait until that point, though ideas in regards to such are welcome.

Tbh I am quite surprised. I thought it'd be someone who's active.

first off: JABRONI have you seen the mod team, what would make you expect that?

Second: he is active, he simply has some outside obligations. Though he may not be the most active in the section, I am absolutely certain he is the best qualified. By a mile.

Noonefucker wouldn't it better if the mod team picks someone who frequents YCM? And I don't know about you, but I've seen Beef Jerky-kun, PeePal-lad and, now former moderator, Sakura (before their short absence) online quite often.

I just worry, because Dova failed to manage his own club (twice) by being absent for almost 7 months, but now he has to look after the entire discussion board? Of course I'm gonna be skeptical about this.

Since it's been decided, the only option I have left is to hope he somehow proves me wrong and manages to do a decent job at this.

I share Rewas's concern about activity if I'm being 100% honest, and expect y'all to revoke his pending modship if it turns out to be that big of a deal over the next month. I don't think it'll be, but I'm not about to rule out the possibility. That aside, full support.

Casual reminder that section mods aren't a thing. CC isn't just for Dova. The only reason someone is even being brought on is because it would be beneficial for someone to bring the section forward, which he already does. If anything, this is a formality, simply giving authoritative power to a figure that is already an authority.

The point remains that even though he has taken absences in the past, nobody else would be suited for the role, at least in my opinion.

Maybe we should bring Section mods back tbh. Some mods, not naming names, go out of their "section" and just make a mess

Firstly, I wanted to thank y'all for the support. It feels great to think that so many people thought I'd be good a the job, and I intend to meet those expectations by doing my best to help keep the site flourishing, both for the current members, and to hopefully continue to help it grow! And to actually start expanding outside of CC as the main site is just as important if not more so than each individual bit within.

As for my absentness...yeah, it has been a problem. I'll be the first to admit it. But that's why I bowed out when I got (admittedly few) votes in the last modship voting, as it had only been a few months since my last absent spree. But, it's been a year, and I believe I've been activate when it comes to posting, both in CC and without. I would not have accepted the role if I did not think I could dedicate the time and effort required to it.

As for my recent absence, that was me going to South Africa and lacking reliable internet thanks to the service there, and I can safely say that I will be free to post and moderate on this forum for the next half a year at least. I've been rapidly catching up in my review thread for one :P

Feel free to name names.

Also yes my concern was always with activity and I brought it up several times. Which is why this Junior Mod period exists.

People of RP can tell you. I don't tolerate absences very well.

Well it's not you. Sometimes I disagree with how you handle debates, but it's not like you teleport out of nowhere after not posting there ever and start lecturing people about things you don't understand at all.

For example, Dova is amazing at CAC, I'm not sure he'd as talented at RP or explaining the marginal tax maximization. Having mods focus on sections where they shine would likely get more tailored results than letting TCG mods police debates or RP

It's hard to think of someone more qualified and universally supported to get this role

Gl Dova :)

I mean... I like Dova. I think he's a good member and I doubt he wouldn't be able to handle it.

However, this was kind of sudden. In past staff movement I saw there was always this big commotion about scouting up what regular members thought, get elections... stuff like that.

Then going back to the present, it's been, what? a week? since Sakura stepped down, and then "btw we have a new mod. You guys didn't know if this was gonna happen, heck even we mods weren't sure, but here we are".

I'm mostly curious about when that stopped being a thing. A year or two ago there would have probably been very vocal complaints for the proceedings.

As much as Dova has close to no opposition in this thread, and again, I don't particularly think he's a bad choice....

For the record, I would be on board with a second "CC mod" to be added at some point in the future, because despite the opposition I held to many of Sakura's actions, it is undeniable that he carried an absolutely monumental amount of weight.

I think that, at the end of his trial period Dova isn't quite filling the gap Sakura left, the solution is not to drop him, instead to promote him (presuming his influence on the section proved beneficial) and look into adding a second member.

I well understand that even with the team's dwindling numbers, it is hard to get everyone to weigh in on decisions (as evidenced by Sakura's statements in his opinion thread) but the solution is not to reduce the size of the team. That simply prevents discourse, and even if the sole opinion held is the one I happen to be aligned with, that is not a system I would support.

man, i really talk like i'm a part of the team sometimes, maybe i should tone it down a bit
