Terms

Recommended Posts

This is an experimental list of terms to help reduce the amount of words on a card. Any input is welcome. If you have a term you'd like to see put on a card, go ahead and post it with the definition.

• Necro Summon/Revive: Special Summon from GY.

• Recycle: Return from GY to Deck.

• Reincarnate: Return to GY to hand.

• Dimension Summon: Special Summoning banished monsters.

While Necro Summoning and Revival are essentially the same mechanic, the ruling may be different.

Take something like Dispair from the Dark for example, which can be discarded and then summoned from the Grave. That is the perfect example of a Necro Summon. Now let's say, Dispair is sent from the field to the grave and brought back via Monster Reborn, then that would be a good example of Revival. Same mechanic, different ruling. So now that that is out of the way, the wording on a card matters.

Bounce: Return from the field to the Hand.

Mill: Send cards from the top of the Deck to the GY.

SS: Special Summon

Spin: Return from the (location) to the Deck.

Also, I believe Revive/Reborn is a better them than "Necro Summon". Moreover, "Spin" makes the term "Recycle" redundant.

I guess "Necro Summon" could be interchangeable with "Revive". Guess it just depends on how you want to word it. Spinning, if I'm not mistaken, would return any card? Whereas Recycling is just the top of the GY. Both are applicable.

Not sure what to call it when a banished card is returned to the deck or hand.

I like the idea, but let me play devils advocate. Would a new player understand "spin" or "return to deck" better?

Kinda agree with Ryusei here. While shortening words an terms can save space and makes cards convinient to be read. The first and foremost is "are the player understand what the card does" and then "is it complicated things further?". For irl example im to this day still not really in agreement that Graveyard become GY. While Life Point > LP works better due to HP is common knowledge across games so the logic jump isn't as severe l. IMO GY don't have that same inherited common sense. Im quite ok if Graveyard is shorthen to Grave rather than GY since its still convey the message clearly that iys the place when cards that "dead" supposed to be place

The only keyword/term/shorthening that i currently see in this post that probably i can agree with is Special Set and Mill. The rest is way too interchangeable with each other and potentially misinform players

The "Spin" term isn't actually mine. I was just kind enough to add it.

I was just experimenting with terms that players would actually understand for the most part.

That's why I added the ruling stating the difference between Necro Summoning and Revival. So if a card says "Necro Summon", you know it can be a monster that has never been summoned. Whereas "Revive" more implies that that monster has to have already been summoned once before. So let's say you have 2 cards. The first card says "Revive 1 Dragon monster." and the second card says "Necro Summon 1 Dragon monster." you have a Judgement Dragon that in grave that you never got a chance to summon. Which of these cards will help you more in a pinch?

Update: I removed "Spin" because new players won't know what it is. And I would rather have terms on my cards that new players can pretty much know what they are since there are cards that naturally perform these functions (just with more wording).
