Ali Baba Thieves Archetype

This archetype is a series of cards I thought of that are based around the section in Bookworm Adventures 1 where you fight your way through a series of thieves ( a section based around the story of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves ).

The concept for the archetype is monsters who have powerful effects, but your opponent can choose to negate those effects for a cost of life points. If they do that, however, you will gain another effect.

I'm planning to release this archetype in a series of waves ( likely 3-4 waves at most ) and release 5-6 cards in each wave.

Any kind of feedback is greatly appreciated!

I'll be honest, going into this, I was scared that there were gonna be 40 archetypal cards XD

You said you were going to expand on this. From what I see right now, the archetype looks solid. You've got four core playmaker monsters, a field spell that lets you hold onto advantage, and a trap that really runs with the thief aspect.

As it is, until you write up the deck's main wincon, I don't really have too much to add other than maybe a PSCT fix here and there. I really like the gimmick and it really lends itself to, uh... "certain expectations" in card design. Really looking forward to seeing some more.

[spoiler Text fixes]

Sneak Attack:

If all of the monsters you control are “Ali Baba” monsters (min. 1): Look at your opponent’s hand, then you can choose 1 card in it to send to the GY. Until the end of the next turn after this effect resolves, you cannot Special Summon monsters except “Ali Baba” monsters. You can banish this card from your GY; for the rest of the turn after this effect resolves, the effects of “Ali Baba” monsters in your possession cannot be negated. You can only use each effect of “Ali Baba Sneak Attack” once per turn.

(basically de-capitalized "monsters" and fixed the first part of the banish effect - trap effects in the GY are always quick effects, and you don't need to specify if it is in the GY if the cost is banishing itself from the GY.)

The second batch looks like it's really leaning heavily into your opponent negating your effects. To one extent, that's fine, but then design-wise, it seems awkward making the negated effects almost better than the actual effects (especially when the first batch had the negated effects being actively weaker). If the negated effects end up being almost as good or even better in certain cases, then the opponent wouldn't end up bothering to negate and you wouldn't gain any further benefit.

To further add to this, both Links need an something to be negated and don't have an effect to be negated themselves. It just compounds the problem.

Aside from the mechanical aspects though, I do like this batch too. It gives the deck something to aim toward while also adding to the deck's consistency. I'm also loving the little touch you made that every MD monster that is a "Recurring Nightmares" target can also Special Summon itself from the hand. It does show how you can build the deck with outside support.

Cheers!
