Gravekeeper's Commandant + Necrovalley + Necrovalley Throne

Recommended Posts

This was a tech that I came up against at the May 19th regional. It caught me off guard, and looking back at this tech, it seems like an interesting tech to side against certain decks going 1st.

Gravekeeper's Commandant

Level 4 / Earth / Spellcaster / Effect

1600 attack / 1500 defense

You can discard this card to the Graveyard; add 1 "Necrovalley" from your Deck to your hand.

Necrovalley

Spell - Field

All "Gravekeeper's" monsters gain 500 ATK and DEF. Cards in the Graveyard cannot be banished. Negate any card effect that would move a card in the Graveyard to a different place. Negate any card effect that changes Types or Attributes in the Graveyard.

[spoiler=Necrovalley Throne]

Necrovalley Throne

Spell - Normal

Activate 1 of these effects.

- Add 1 "Gravekeeper's monster from your Deck to your hand.

- Immediately after this effect resolves, Normal Summon 1 "Gravekeeper's" monster.

You can only activate 1 "Necrovalley Throne" per turn.

Against decks like Danger Orcusts and Thunder Dragon and Guardragons, this seems like a good tech. You could play 6 copies of Necrovalley, which prevents your opponent from using the GY effects of Orcusts and Phantom Knights, your opponent wouldn't be able to summon any of the mini Chaos Dragons, or the big Chaos Dragons either. You could even play 9 copies of it if you play Necrovalley Throne, which searches Commandant which searches Necrovalley. Could this be a good side deck tech?

You were playing Salamangreats, right? I’m not entirely sure about their play style. Can they play around Necrovalley?

Not really. A lot of their GY effects revolve around moving things to different places from the GY ( adding with sunlight wolf, spinny and foxy summoning themselves, roar re-setting itself ). I got a bit lucky though, as I had hard drawn the rage, so I was able to pop it in the next turn. It definitely could give a salamangreat player a tricky time, depending on their hand.

Well, I'll have to give this a try. I've been going against Salamangreat with my friend and haven't won a single match. Maybe I'll get back to you if and when after I've tried it.

In any case, it does help hinder their reuse of resources. I guess in the long run, screwing with their Graveyard plays would be more detrimental to them than disrupting searching. Ash Blossom hasn't been enough for me.
