Rampart Monsters

I would like to share an idea of a new type of monster that I had : Rampart Monsters.

What is a Rampart monster ?

So Rampart monsters's card color is red. They are similar to Link monsters as they don't have levels or ranks and only have defense points. Instead of their attack points, they have a number of turns they can stay on the field. They are placed in the graveyard in face down position. Their effects applies mostly not during your turn but during your opponent's turn.

How to summon them ?

Rampart monsters are connected to the graveyard, they can only be summoned from there and they need monsters in the graveyard to be summoned. Another important thing : they can only be summoned during your opponent's Battle Phase.

So let's say we are during your opponent's turn. He controls 2 monsters and just destroyed the only monster on your field by battle. His second monster still didn't attack but now that your monster is in the graveyard, you have enough conditions to Rampart Summon a Rampart monster that needs 3 monsters in your graveyard.

So, by returning these 3 monsters to your deck, you can summon the Rampart monster from your graveyard. This monster will stay on the field as long as the number of turns written on his description, or less if he is destroyed before for example.

Where are they before, during, and after the summoning ?

I said it before, before the summoning Rampart monsters are placed in the graveyard in face-down position. They are not considered as Extra Deck monsters, so that means they are not placed in the extra monster zone, but you can only have one Rampart monster on your field. Since they don't have attack points, they can only be placed on the field in defense position. Once they leave the field (because they were destroyed or they reached the limit of the number of turns on the field), they are bannished in face down position.

Also I forgot to mention it but Rampart monsters cannot be moved to your hand or deck, even if it's from the field. So if they have to be removed from the field to the hand for example, they return to the graveyard in face-down position instead.

An example of Rampart Monster ?

This is a written example of how a Rampart monster would look like :

Knight of the Last Hope                 Attribute : EARTH                Level : None (as I said earlier, this is for the example)

Turn / 3 (That means he can stay 3 turns on the field, including the turn of its summoning)                                                                                                                                     DEF / 2300

[Warrior / Rampart / Effect]

3 level 4 or bellow monsters. (The monsters that have to be in your GY to summon this Rampart monster)

When this card is Rampart Summoned, decrease the attack points of all the monsters currently on your opponent's field by 1000. As long as this card is on the field, when one of your opponent's monster attacks, you can discard 1 monster ; increase this card's DEF by the original ATK of the discarded monster. During each End phase, if this card is on the field, you can add one of your monsters destroyed this turn from your GY to your hand.

That's all for the explanations! So do you think it is a good idea or not ?

I do have a few questions:

Firstly, how many of these are you allowed to have? The ED is limited to 15, but there is no GY limit.

Also, since it Special Summons during the opponent's Battle Phase, is it something that can be Summoned during the Damage Step?

Lastly, can I try making a few? :D

@@Tinkerer I didn't think of the number limit at all honestly, that is a good question. I think 5 or 6 would be good.

For your second question : yes it can be Summoned during the Damage Step. The monster I showed in my post is a perfect example. Let's imagine your opponent attacks another monster but he only has 800 more attack points than yours. When you summon "Knight of the Last Hope", your opponent's monster instantly loose 1000 ATK and your other monster is saved.

And yes you can totally try to make a few, I would love to see them ^^ I have a few in my mind (mostly a monster named "Scarlet-Eyes Vengeful Dragon") but seeing someone else's aproach would be a great thing.

I think what you did here is very creative and I like it a lot, however, if treated uncarefully, it could straight up become a type of monster card that would only be used in stall decks. It'll be awesome to see more cards of this type and see the direction it will take with the play-making potential it presents. maybe I'll try my hand at these as well hehe

so they kinda like Battle Trap with bodies that also serve as advantage recycle, i can see this in the game

as addressed before one of the balancing factor is the actually limit of how many Rampart Monster you run. also the fact they don't have level, rank, rating, or similar trait meaning they can't really be used much to spam advantage which further cemented with "you can only control 1" "summon only on opponent turn"

but i think this can improve this further. while i understand that their self-banish rule to prevent loops of unlimited summon since you dont state these guys "Rampart Summon" has certain limit. i think given we already have pendulums and advantage crazy deck we had its ok to for these guys to have a bit of edge. thus im proposing that they allowed to sent to GY face-up upon removal instead of being banished which then coupled with ruling that you can't Shuffle a Rampart Monster (which return them to rampart summon-able face down in GY)  that is face-up in GY for Rampart Summoning unless certain condition is fullfiled. so with that we have a much more tame & slower loop but not completely outpaced by the metagame. thus promote itself better to player base
