#7129103 Hybrid-type

Posted by Tythe on Yesterday, 05:08 PM

Hello, fine peoples!

As I am making a character that uses this for an RP, I thought it'd be good for me to post this thread showing a few of his cards and explaining the gimmick.

Really, the "gimmick" is simple and has actually been explored before, sorta.  Battle Pack 3: Monster League was a pack that Konami released to support draft/sealed pack play.  In it, Konami made a "Special Rule" that made all monsters all types.  This allowed the format to work with a bunch of various monsters while also allowing them to print type-specific support cards (such as "The Warrior Returning Alive") without worrying that a player wouldn't be able to use it.

Basically, that is what the hybrid-type is: a monster that is all types at once.

Under normal conditions, this would be overly powerful, so (for the most part) cards of this type are usually Normal monsters or are pretty bad.  Examples below:

Dimensional Dot

LIGHT *

Hybrid

One-dimensional object that subsists using energy from our world.  It is unknown whether it is truly alive or not.

0/0

Domino Dog
LIGHT **
Hybrid
A dog that has an unusual aura about it. It seems to be loyal to a being that cannot be seen.
300/800

Ion Striker

FIRE ***

Hybrid/Effect

You can target 1 monster you control and 1 card your opponent controls; destroy this card and those targets.

1000/200

Wormhole Beast

WIND ****

Hybrid

A creature of immense power that is able to open holes in space-time with its howl.  Its stomach seems to be a wormhole as it never seems to get full.

1800/0

Lash, Lord of Entropy

DARK *****

Hybrid/Effect

If this card is added to your hand this turn, this card can be Normal Summoned without Tribute.

2400/0

...yeah, generally pretty bad.  This design needs to be carefully balanced, just because there is SO much type support that could end up making any "ok" hybrid monster broken.

#7129002 YCM Highlander Tournament

I've got 4 deck lists so far.

@Darj
@(Mizzet)
...can you get your deck lists in asap?

For the rest of you: you may begin any time.  Best of 3, no side (no one's lists had a side anyway).

I'm not familiar with Round Robin, does this mean we each will duel each other player once in a single?

Yup, everyone duels everyone else once with no elimination. Whoever has the best record in their 4 duels wins. In the case of a tie, a tiebreaker duel is held between the two with the best record.

#7128070 B&N Yu-Gi-Oh Sale

Posted by Tythe on 12 November 2018 - 01:39 PM

Mine local B&N didn't have any tins or really good packs for sale, but I was able to get two of the Legendary Hero Decks boxes for $30 which was pretty good (If I was selling cards at market price, I'd make my money back and more, so I'm happy)

I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you play irl.

#7128017 [OCG] Structure Deck R: Lord of Magician

Posted by Tythe on 12 November 2018 - 01:18 AM

Hey, as long as they reprint the Mythical Beast cards, I'll be happy.

I just feel it's been annoying how much emphasis these structures have had on their field spells... I can't imagine this one to be any different in that regard: "Open Magical City or lose".

#7128013 [YCPC] Potato & Chips

Posted by Tythe on 12 November 2018 - 12:57 AM

wtf konami

why would you make a worse painful decision

i meant it has no hopt and can be run in addition to decision, it is much less techable, and requires you to have the normal monster out and your opponent to have made plays

it doesnt help that most normal monster play is in the deck/gy, so hitting the first and not supplying the other is really annoying

delivery is even more terrible, normal monsters are some of the worst bricks imaginable. if it had some boon on its effect after it shuffled, then yeah, coolio, but as a trap that deck thickens...wtf???

I think you're overreacting.  These aren't meant to be good.  How powerful did you expect a card called "Delivery from the Farm" to be?  Let 'em have some fun.

If I need to talk about application... Well, I suppose for Opening of Souls, the deck that'd get the most benefit would be Ojamas since you can banish recycle them for some benefit, but eh... even then, Decision is probably better there as well (since it loads the Grave for Ojamassimilation).

I dunno, some of these silly things I can just appreciate just for the sake of silliness (Nanana and Broken Bamboo Sword come to mind).  But really, how can you not like a couple potato chips that are as lazy as you normally are when eating potato chips?

#7127220 Archetype Generator Meta

Posted by Tythe on 06 November 2018 - 10:12 AM

*takes a deep breath*

We have the "Solemn" stuff, the "Hole" Trap cards (but not Traptrix), the "Mirror Force" Trap cards, the "Virus" series, the Book Series (I think this might need clarification.  I'm assuming this is Book of Moon/Eclipse/Taiyou/Life, not the Spellbooks), and the "Forbidden" Quick-Play Spell Series.

In terms of custom stuff: the only listed backrow-only "archetype" (I believe) is my "Falsehood" Archetype.  In terms of stuff in the generics pool: we have the "Forgotten One" series, and the "Sparks" series/archetype.  There's also the "Rail" Trap series, but that needs a specific monster for it to work correctly.

Out of everything though, I think only Falsehood and Sparks are playable as a deck (and the former is not very good at it).

#7127138 Solomon's Tomb [WRITTEN]

Posted by Tythe on 05 November 2018 - 07:34 PM

Solomon's Tomb
Continuous Trap
When this card is activated: declare 1 monster name. During your Standby Phase, if you do not control a monster with the declared name: you can Special Summon 1 monster with the declared name from either player's Graveyard to your side of the field.

Because why not have a card that is essentially infinite Monster Reborns?  Almost definitely useless in today's meta just based on how this is a exceptionally slow trap, but I think the overall potential of this card warrants a look-through.  Thoughts?

#7126961 Tour Guide of the Zombie World [WRITTEN]

Posted by Tythe on 04 November 2018 - 12:43 AM

Tour Guide of the Zombie World

DARK ***

Zombie/Effect

When this card is Normal Summoned: you can Special Summon 1 Level 3 or lower Zombie monster from your GY, but it has its effects negated.  You can only Special Summon Zombie monsters for the rest of the turn after you activate this effect.  When "Zombie World" is activated, you can send this card from your hand, side of the field, or Deck to the GY, and if you do, send 1 Zombie monster from your Deck to the Graveyard.  You can only activate each effect of "Tour Guide of the Zombie World" once per turn.

1000/0

Because Zombie World doesn't actually do anything on use, I thought a means of immediately making plays off it would be nice.  Also a grave summoner b/c why not.

#7126748 {written.} Equilibrium Dragon

Posted by Tythe on 02 November 2018 - 01:49 PM

Equilibrium Dragon
Level 10
EARTH/Dragon/Fusion
Sun Dragon Inti + Moon Dragon Quilla
ATK 3000 DEF 3000
Must first be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by sending the above cards you control into the GY. (You do not use "Polymerization".) This card cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. When this card is Special Summoned: destroy monsters on your opponent’s side of the field until there is 1. While this card is face-up on the field each player can only control 1 face-up monster. If this card is targeted by your opponents Card Effect, activate the following:
Banish 1 ‘Sun Dragon Inti’ or 1 ‘Moon Dragon Quilla’ from your GY to negate the activation of a Card Effect that targets this card.
When this face-up card leaves the field; Special Summon 1 ‘Sun Dragon Inti’ or ‘Moon Dragon Quilla’ from your GY.

Expanding on what Horu said, the default PC theme has a dark background while the mobile theme has a light background. The card is difficult to read on mobile because of this, so it is often best to just use the default text color (as it adjusts to theme).

Anyways, a Fusion of the Inti/Quill a Synchros. Definitely interesting. I've always liked those Synchros, so it's nice to see a bigger boss for 'em.

It's actually pretty solid if you can summon it since it is really difficult to out this with one monster (especially since this has targeting protection). However, the problem is summoning it in the first place (just because of how the Synchros work).

You might want to also rework the text for the targeting protection. Right now, it's mandatory so you can't choose what to negate and so it can be played around fairly easily. Something like: "If this card is targeted by your opponents Card Effect: you can banish 1 "Sun Dragon Inti" or "Moon Dragon Quilla" from your GY; negate that effect" might be a bit better (though the grammar is probably still off).

#7126696 Back-Burner

Posted by Tythe on 01 November 2018 - 10:17 PM

There's also Living Fossil.  I think that sees some play?  Maybe?  Also can act as a cute counter vs Impermanence.

But yeah, this is fine.  Pyro-type doesn't really add anything (as far as I know), but turning a negated monster DARK could potentially be helpful.

#7126451 YCM Highlander Tournament

Posted by Tythe on 31 October 2018 - 05:39 PM

Hello, fine peoples!

Just a simple tournament with highlander rules.

What is highlander?

Hope to run an elimination format, so 8 players is preferable, but if there are too few, we'll just switch to a round robin form and see who gets the most wins. Wins to be reported by both players in this thread. Regarding banlist and cardpool: TCG+OCG format

Sound good? Great!

2. Darj
3. (Mizzet)
4. Dova - 0:1:0
5. Catman25
6. Ciao Babe (not really) - 2:0:0

#7126011 Delete Debates

Posted by Tythe on 29 October 2018 - 03:17 PM

I mean, I don't care much either way but... can't there just be some kind of way to take Debates off-site or something?  It wouldn't be deleting it because I do feel it is important to have.  Instead, someone clicks on the debates section and they get ported to a similar looking site but isn't actually connected to YCM (as in, the threads there don't show up under recent topics here, etc.).

In terms of how things would work from there: political and divisive topics on YCM would be heavily moderated (as in, they have to stay under extremely strict guidelines), BUT in exchange, the sub-site would be much more lax in terms of moderation.  It could be beneficial in keeping this site lighter while it gives those people who actively post in debates a greater amount of freedom in a different form (which, from what I understand, is a concern?)

Regarding statuses (I mean, I don't use 'em much so I don't exactly know how they're being used to promote debates), they could be used to give the topic title of said debate and a link to take you to the debate thread itself.  Rather than putting your own opinion in your status, you leave your own thoughts within the thread and simply promote the thread itself so people can see it and - if they're interested - respond to it (in-thread of course, not in the status).

I don't have any skin in this game one way or the other, but deleting Debates entirely doesn't seem like the right direction, especially if it doesn't stop the influx of controversial topics.

Ancient Metropolis has been a bit of a mess. I've finished the main deck, but whenever I'd work on the Fusions I keep thinking of a gimmick that'd be interesting. Now the deck is going in like 3 different directions. Thinking of taking it back to the drawing board.
