#7124849 Clockwork Archetype, New Gimmick Based on Link Markers

Posted by Tythe on Yesterday, 11:56 PM

Oh, I really like these!

Despite being, at its core, a simple Link laddering archetype, it focuses on an unexplored mechanic of Link arrow manipulation while doing so in a thematic way. On top of that, the concept isn't so gimmicky that the cards become unusable; on the contrary, they're extremely solid.

individual card thoughts

combo with 3 or Repair in hand

...Whew! I remember why I don't usually do full reviews!

Anyways, I do want to reemphasize that I really like the concept and the gimmick. You just leaned a little too far in terms of power. I'd recommend toning the problematic ones down a little and definitely adding an OPT to Median at least.

Hope to see how these shape up!

#7124452 [Written] Impact Reactor

Posted by Tythe on 19 October 2018 - 04:25 PM

I really like these. Basic premise that takes an older "archetype" and fleshes it out for a more modern game play. While the old Reactors focused more on the burn, these rely on their stun power with the burn acting as a bonus.

For the most part, everything looks solid.
However, there are a few aspects that might need tuning:

- The deck's speed: this is the biggest critique in the deck's viability. Unless you have the field spell up or set yourself up for Aircavalry, you are likely not putting more than 1 Impact Reactor on the board at a time. If the deck had a different focus, then this might be fine, but you'd need each monster to handle different threats. But since you can effectively only summon 1 at a time, they don't pose a threat.

- The Lv 1 + 2: On the whole, while I like the idea of them, these... don't really work. They trigger off a reactionary play and they have the same speed problem as the rest. There just isn't a feasible way of getting these on the field alongside the others to trigger them. If I were to make a suggestion here: maybe you could give the levels 1 + 2 some kind of archetypal Marauding Captain/Motivating Captain effect, so you can get multiple monsters on the field.

- Card Grammer errors: There're a few small things like forgetting to put "monster" after "impact reactor" on some of the cards, or not putting semicolons on certain effects. I'm not the best at grammar though, so another person could probably help ya out better in that area.

Other than that, yeah, I like these! Obviously, some are weaker and wouldn't really be used (the Lv 2 and the Continuous spell for one), but others are really strong and make a deck like this worth building (the Normal spell & Continuous trap). Cheers!

Honestly my only complaint with this is that it doesn't tribute. I mean, the themed deck uses tokens which can't be used for this, and uses Dragons which don't gain any benefit from this off Super Rejuv. (though personally, I just wanted it to tribute for dem Lair of Darkness plays)

...otherwise it looks like a solid support card, especially for splashable plant cards/engines.

Urgent Schedule for Deskbots looks delicious.

But really, the card all by itself looks insane; it could enable so much.  By the by, does the high level Machine also have to be EARTH, or can you just use CyDra?  Either way, this looks like a potentially amazing Machine support card.

Now if you'll excuse me, I missed playing Karakuri..

#7123063 Storytime! [Mass Archetype Mix - Chapter 2]

Posted by Tythe on 13 October 2018 - 09:37 PM

Hello, fine peoples!

Deck List

This deck is garbage (a winrate of 3/10 XD), but I wanted to try to make a deck with all the revealed World Legacy story archetypes thus far (World Legacy, World Chalice, Krawler, Mekk-Knight, Knightmare, Crusadia, Orcust/Orphegel, and Guardragon - for those not keeping score).  Generally, it is simply a Link Spam/Mekk-Knight beatdown deck.  It sometimes has the capacity to put out large boards, and with the right setup, can maneuver itself around light negation boards...  Ok, I'm sorry, this deck is really sad...

Long post on each individual archetype + their function in the deck

If you read all that, thanks a lot!  I'm thinking of doing more of these deck mashups.  I doubt any will turn out to be good, but it'll be fun to see the monstrosities that I'll end up with.  I do want to note that though this is the first time I'm formally making this a "thing", I want my first "Mass Archetype Mix" to be this deck which I plan to revamp sometime.

Also Thunder Dragons.  Especially Thunder Dragons.  They can afford the cost of this card, they are more consistent than Metaphys, and they are less Normal Summon reliant than Shiranui.

#7122574 [SAST] Guardragon

Posted by Tythe on 10 October 2018 - 11:06 PM

It's... actually really surprising to me how little support there is for low level Dragon monsters. No easy way to search 'em, dump 'em, recover 'em, etc.

Welp... damn.

ANYways, Dragons got their own Icarus Attack. Never thought I'd see the day. Anyone else think the crater in the pic looks a little like the Ice Barrier symbol?

Field Spell in Blue-Eyes? Prolly not, but that deck would probably use it better than this one.

The Links are hilarious but the MD is underwhelming. Wonder how people are gonna use the Link-2?

#7122150 [Written] Madolche Dracaroon

Posted by Tythe on 08 October 2018 - 05:30 PM

I'll be honest, I've never really played Madolches so I wouldn't know if this has finer interactions, but it seems underwhelming. The empty your grave effect seems nice, but the boost feels negligible. Maybe the boost can apply to all Madolches you control, or raise it to 200+?

The other main effect really isn't good. It is a SS1 targeted destruction effect with a cost. To be blunt, that is really bad. At least it could be non-targeting or something (so it matches up with her majesty).

The only part of this that seems ok is the targeting protection.

Overall, this is a Link-3 with little to compensate for the investment you'd put into making it. I don't know exactly how much Madolche are able to swarm, but unless you can board 5 Madolches in a turn, this feels way too costly for too little benefit.

Love the name though :3

#7122109 NEO DANGER! (Enguin kept complaining I didnt have combo based decks so I...

Posted by Tythe on 08 October 2018 - 11:16 AM

How useful are the Rainbow Neos turbo cards btw? I'm actually curious.

If you aren't getting a ton of value for 'em, they could probably be replaced with more generic power cards for more overall value. I'm thinking Evenly Matched/Super Poly could be especially useful going second for a combo deck. Super Poly even discards, so that could also be helpful.

Definitely add Summon Sorceress to extra and remove Link Spider.

Needlefiber + Jet = Summon Sorceress
Danger effect to summon to 1 of Sorceress' points
Sorceress SS another Danger from Deck
SS Jet from Grave
...More plays

#7121900 [SAST] Subteror Succession

Posted by Tythe on 06 October 2018 - 12:55 PM

I dunno. I mean, as a trap, it allows you to activate in response to removal and whatnot though.

Not being continuous means it can't be Ghost Ogre'd. It setting itself means Ashing it would likely end up hurting the Ash player in the long run. I dunno, I think it's got a lot of positives as a trap.

#7119882 Some AGM Gifts [WRITTEN]

Posted by Tythe on 23 September 2018 - 04:24 PM

Just a couple gift cards for fellow AGM members. @ Flash Flyer - Sakura @The Nyx Avatar

Nyx's Library

Continuous Spell

As long as this card remains face-up on the field, you must turn your Deck upside down and proceed with the duel.  Once per turn: you can activate any number of the appropriate following effects in order depending on the top card of your Deck:

- DARK monster: Banish the top card of your Deck, add the top card from your Deck to your hand, then discard 1 card.

- LIGHT monster: Return 1 card from your hand to the bottom of your Deck, add 1 monster from your Graveyard to your hand, then send the top card from your Deck to the Graveyard.

- Fiend-type monster: Send 1 Fiend-type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard, then, banish 1 monster with the same name as the sent monster from your Deck, and if you do, you can add 1 monster with the same name from your Deck to your hand.  Shuffle this card into your Deck.

Just some support for fiend decks specifically and LIGHT/DARK decks as a whole.  Nothing really fancy, but it is a card that plays to the strengths of the Attributes and can help set up fiend decks. ...and Nyx just really likes fiends.  And makes a lot of 'em.

Second Blossom
Tribute 1 monster that activated its effect last turn; this effect becomes 1 of that monster's activated effects.  You can only activate 1 "Second Blossom" per turn.
A card that lets you use effects twice.  Locked behind an OPT or OPD?  Let's rewind the tape and use that effect again anyway!  Figured this would be good card when paired with a lot of Sakura's designs since they tend to have simple, effective.. er.. effects, but are usually locked to being OPTs/On-Summon effects/etc.
