"X-Caliber"

Akira leaned forward in his seat, his eyebrows raised at the incredible show of force. Based on the rock-thrower's reaction, this was something nobody had seen before, a surprise finisher. It was clear that the scale of the attack was far beyond anything else shown so far in the tournament, taking a combined effort of both their teacher and the school's own principal to halt. With his elbow on his knee, Akira cradled his face in one hand, covering his mouth. In that moment, he doubted that even he could block such an attack, no matter how much time he had to concentrate up a barrier. Was he trying to kill his opponent?

As the two were taken off of the battlefield, presumably to treat their injuries, given how rough the fight had been on the both of them, Akira saw his own face up on the screen. Just two more fights and he would be done with this stupid-ass tournament. He rose to his feet quietly, walking back up the stadium steps to make his way to his starting position. A million thoughts flew through his head, as he sorted through all the things he had seen that morning. Everyone else had been showing off what they could do, undoubtedly surpassing the limits of what others thought they could do, as well as their own perceived limitations. The talkative girl using her quirk so hard that it knocked her out, the snake trying his hardest to win even when he knew he couldn't, Gin so desperate to win that he was willing to destroy both himself and his opponent. According to chatter around him, some girl apparently even set herself on fire. As he walked, many passers-by attempted to engage him, asking for an autograph or some inspirational quote before his fight, but Akira walked past each and every one of them without a passing glance. They are all too enamored with this "Max Omega" bullshit that they don't realize how stupid it all is.

Akira stood in the narrow hallway that led into the main arena stage, just far back enough that he was outside of view. Semi-finals. He didn't expect to get this far. Not for lack of ability, but simply because he had very little interest in the tournament. The point of it was hardly one of true competition. The whole thing was simply to put on a show, to gather publicity for the growing heroes, as well as to put each student's name forward for agencies to consider ahead of time. It may as well have been a talent show. Akira sighed quietly, adjusting his sunglasses a bit before pulling his hood up and over his head. The whole thing was pointless. With a quirk like his, he didn't need to show off. But… he had already started, so stopping now would just look weak.

“Time to turn some heads.”

Taking a deep breath, Akira closed his eyes. Focus, he thought to himself. Once again, just as at the start of his fight against Isami, golden stripes appeared running down his sleeves, albeit with far greater intensity than before. While before, he had been preparing to attack at only a moment's notice, his singular goal this time was to cultivate an image. Anyone looking from the stands toward the hallway in which Akira was located would see the light begin to spill out onto the arena floor, almost as if a yellow floodlight was being shone out of it. On his back, a pair of stylized stars appeared, mimicking the system for which he named himself.

Opening his eyes once again, Akira stepped forward into full view of the crowd, gilded in light. The response was more or less what he had expected: a combination of applause and boos. The sheer force of the outburst from the thousands of spectators hit Akira like a bus, but he stood his ground, basking in the glory and glistening like the sun.

None of them mattered.

Akira focused his vision directly forward, seeing his opponent, Michael Rosenfeld, step into view of the audience, eliciting another roar from the crowd. Briefly turning his attention up to the huge screen, he saw the image change from photos of the two of them, announcing the match, to side-by-side live feeds of the soon-to-be combatants. After about a dozen paces, he had reached his starting position. He swam through thoughts of how the fight would go, planning around what he had seen his opponent do in previous rounds. Everything else was muffled as he focused solely on Mike, who stood in front of him, loosely stretching. A hand on Akira's shoulder pulled him out of his almost trance-like state, as he turned to see Suna looking down at him. "Try to take this seriously. You might have been able to get as far as you've gotten off of innate talent, but that's only going to last so long."

Akira simply shrugged the hand off his shoulder, turning his attention back to Mike. He took a long, deep breath before addressing him. “In your previous match, you managed to overcome muscular paralysis purely through the use of your quirk. That is particularly impressive power control,” Akira bemused, “unfortunately, by this point I imagine you've caught on to the fact of the matter…” as he trailed off, the strips of light along his arms and back slowly faded, unlike the typical ‘shattering’ his constructs underwent when he ceased to keep them up. Their disappearance was measured, and deliberate, as the intensity of the light in his eyes grew in turn, now clearly piercing through the tint of his glasses. “You and I are on completely different levels.”

“You know I play sports, right? Well I did before coming to U.A. Any time I played in a major competition, there’s always a richer, bigger school that has a fancier record than mine. Sometimes they’d say the same thing to us, and you know what happened?” Mike took a fighting stance and charged up his suit, the green lights that ran between the silver plates and red suit glowing a more and more brilliant colour. “They’d lose just like the rest.”

"LET THE MATCH...BEGIN!"

Honestly this is really good. I think scratching a bit at gastrodon's neck/the piece's waist would bring it together a little better

We aren't laughing that you used to be an sjw. We are laughing at you because you have been a broken record making the same joke about them every hour. It's annoying.

Bumping this for my newest inspired splice. Not much, but it kept me occupied for a bit:

Gardevoir + Relicanth (Voltorb recolor)

if that isn't beautiful, I don't know what is.

#7105008 YCM is dead, how can we fix this?

Posted by (temmie) on 16 June 2018 - 09:58 PM

But that being said, the original DP format fell apart somewhat because of the problems judging cards for a format and taking into consideration hybrid builds (not pure)

I think I'm reasonably qualified to say that this isn't the case.

The DP format that took place over 2015 did not fail because of anything inherently flawed or wrong with the game itself. Due to various (admittedly ridiculous) personal spats, the player base was left fragmented, and leadership was reassigned. By the time the dust cleared, I was in charge, and working with VCR_CAT and Toyo, was able to more or less get things all working again. This period lasted for the latter half of the year, at which point personal issues (completely unrelated to the format) caused me to leave YCM for several weeks, without telling anyone what was going on (nobody ever asked, but that's far from an excuse). During this time, the lack of centralized control and direction caused the group to fall apart, with many moving to the then-growing 2099 format.

The second attempt, by myself, VCR, and Reaper Yuhi, similarly failed as a result of my lack of ability to put in the time and push the format forward.

Put simply, there is very little holding back the construction of a centralized Duel Portal format, beyond the inability of those in charge, myself having been a prime example.

It doesn't take a crazy bastard. Cyber Angel Benten is stupid strong.

You talking about how you don't believe yourself to be the best Cardmaker is literally why I voted for you. Though I don't post in CC, I pay close attention to it, and I think you are the best fit for the award, your listed options included.

What's the wackiest yugioh deck you ever played?

rank 8 magibullets. Galaxy Queen's Light isn't a good card, but it's pretty funny.

It's a shame that the Sakura you thought you got rid of was only a shadow clone.

You really think I'd fall that easily?

I think I just found a time rift to C&O, circa 2010.
